GUJRANWALA: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Tuesday cancelled the BA/BS English examination midway after it was found that the paper had been leaked earlier.

The new schedule has not been announced yet.

The university’s English exam of BA/BS was scheduled to be held at the Government Mahboob Alam School on Tuesday afternoon. Students were distributed the question paper and they had started to attempt it when the examination superintendent announced cancellation of the paper.

A spokesman said the paper had been leaked from Gujrat and shared on social media because of which the authorities cancelled the paper and a new date would be announced soon.

English was the second last exam of BA general group; the last was supposed to be Pakistan Studies that would be held as per schedule.

Meanwhile, a large number of candidates protested the paper leak. They demanded the government award strict punishment to the officials involved in the leak.

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claims to have arrested four land route agents, including a proclaimed offender, during an operation and seized passports and other material from them.

FIA Deputy Director Roy Nassarullah told Dawn that the agency had prepared a list of more than 4,000 human smugglers who were involved in sending people to Turkey, Greece and Iran illegally. The FIA had formed special teams to arrest the culprits.

The FIA Gujranwala circle received information that a proclaimed offender human smuggler, Khuram Shahazad, wanted to the FIA for a long time had taken shelter in a village of Kamoke.

A team under the supervision of Inspector Hassan Farooq conducted a raid and arrested him from his hideout. The agency also arrested a land route agent, Naeem, in Daska. Meanwhile, agents Ashraf and Mushtaq were held in Gujranwala city.

The authority also recovered hundreds of passports, identity cards and other documents from their possession.
