PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party has terminated the basic membership of Senator Sitara Ayaz on charges of violating the party’s constitution and discipline.

A statement issued here on Friday said the party’s provincial president Aimal Wali Khan under Article 27 of the ANP constitution terminated membership of Ms Ayaz.

It said the senator was given personal hearing but could not give satisfactory answers to the charges. She was accused of creating groups within the party.

Ms Ayaz, who belongs to Swabi, also served as minister in the KP cabinet from 2008 to 2013.

It is worth mentioning that Senator Ayaz was issued a show-cause notice last month accusing her of ‘using party for personal interests and creating rifts’.

She was asked to provide a satisfactory reply within seven days to the party regarding the concerns raised in the show-cause notice.

It was stated that she violated party discipline during her visit to her hometown Swabi as a senator.
