RAWALPINDI: The police have been directed to launch a crackdown on net cafes as police believe that these cafes are becoming hub of immoral activities and hotspots for criminal elements.

City Police Officer, Rawalpindi, Mohammad Faisal Rana has issued directives to launch a crackdown on net cafes which, he said, had been emerging as the cause of law-breaking and immoral activities.

He said after the operation if any such net cafe was found functioning in jurisdiction of any police station the relevant station house officer would face strict departmental action.

The CPO issued these directives while chairing a meeting with senior police officers at his camp office on Sunday.

He said that the net cafes operating till late in the night had been developing into hotspots of criminal elements while robbers preferred to spend time at these places.

He said that such cafes were also utilised for misuse of social media for negative purposes; and spreading hate material.

He said that ultimately such net cafes became prime facilitators for all sorts of criminals, which necessitated strict action against them.

The police should also inspect to ensure if the legal SOPs were met for setting up these cafes.

He said that net cafes set up in violation of rules should be closed down.
