SWABI: Eleven days after the death of a newlywed woman in Gadoon Amazai area allegedly by poisoning, the Swabi police say they will decide whether or not to register FIR only after getting report of the medical test of the samples collected from her stomach.

“The report will determine nature of the death. If it says the woman was poisoned, we will register an FIR,” Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate police station SHO Farooq Khan told Dawn.

The SHO said he visited the Mardan Medical Complex to collect the examination report and stayed put for many hours but it wasn’t ready.

He said in light of the report, the police would decide whether or not to convert the complaint of the deceased’s father, Mohammad Riaz, about the alleged murder into an FIR.

The complainant had alleged that his 18-year-old daughter, Zoha, was poisoned to death by her in-laws in Gandaf village of Gadoon Amazai mountainous belton June 28.

The deceased had married US-based businessman Shahbaz Khan six months ago.

There is an outcry on social media about the death with the people declaring it a murder and demanding justice.

The deceased’s elder sister, Aman, is the wife of Shahbaz’s brother, Mohsin Khan.

She told police in a statement that her sister had complained of severe stomach pain on June 28 night but her mother-in-law didn’t allow her to go to the hospital insisting the problem may be low blood pressure.

The woman added that Zoha was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Topi, afterwards.

The deceased’s father alleged that Zoha was poisoned by her mother-in-law and Aman’s husband.

He insisted that Zoha wanted to live with husband in the US but her in-laws were opposed to the idea and that her mother-in-law used to torture her.

The complainant said the circumstances caused by Zoha’s death had forced her other daughter, Aman, to move to his house. However, the deceased’s in-laws claimed that she had died a natural death.
