LAHORE: A sessions court on Thursday issued a notice to Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif on a petition by Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking record of all cases registered against the former.

Mr Khan filed the complaint apparently to reciprocate Rs10 billion defamation suit against him by Mr Sharif.

Advocate Pir Masood Chishti appeared on behalf of the prime minister and urged the court to summon record of all cases lodged against the opposition leader.

Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Amjad Khan issued notice to Mr Sharif seeking his reply by May 16.

The judge is seized with the defamation suit of Mr Sharif filed in 2017 wherein he accused Mr Khan for leveling false accusations on him.

He said Mr Khan at a press conference in Islamabad accused him of offering Rs10 billion through a common friend for withdrawing case of Panama Papers before the Supreme Court.

Mr Sharif sought a decree for recovery of Rs10 billion as compensation from the PM Khan for publication of defamatory content.
