PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has approved several corruption inquiries against government officials in the province.

The development came during a meeting of the NAB regional board here on Monday.

NAB director general Farmanullah Khan chaired the meeting, which was attended by the bureau’s directors, deputy prosecutor general, case officers, and relevant investigation officers.

A statement issued by the NAB revealed that an inquiry had been begun against the officials of the Fata Disaster Management Authority over the alleged involvement in illegal appointments and embezzlement of huge funds.

Officials face charges of corruption, corrupt practices

It revealed that the board also authorised an inquiry against the officials of local government and rural development department and TMA Town-III Peshawar over the violation of building bylaws during the construction of a high-rise building in the University Town area of Peshawar.

It approved an inquiry against the relevant health and education officials for embezzling millions of rupees allocated for the installation of biometric machines in their departments and another against the officials of OGDCL Karak over the alleged illegal award of contract of gas processing and LPG recovery plant and allied facilities at Nashapa oil fields in Karak district.

The board approved an inquiry against owner and administration of the Doctors’ Colony, Mardan, on the charge of cheating people in the garb of an illegal housing scheme.

It authorised separate inquiries against the relevant health officials first over the purchase of medicines from ‘blue-eyed companies at exorbitant rates’ for distribution to KP hospitals and second over the illegal appointment of doctors and paramedics in Fata.

The NAB director general said the bureau was committed to working for the elimination of corruption in the province to ensure prosperous future of coming generations.
