PESHAWAR: Two transgender persons were injured when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at them on Kohat Road here on Friday night, the police said.

They said that the transgender persons were returning after performing at a wedding function when four persons riding on motorcycles opened fire at them within the jurisdiction of Rehman Baba police station.

They said that Zahid alias Mehek and Kamran alias Jia, residents of Hashatnagri area of the provincial capital, sustained injuries in the attack and were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

“Their condition is stable and we have launched an investigation into the attack on the transgender persons’ complaint,” Saddar circle DSP Arbab Naeem Haidar told Dawn.

“We have taken into custody many suspects,” he added.

Earlier on March 6, the police said that a transgender person was killed and two others were injured when unidentified persons opened fire near a commercial centre — an area mostly inhabited by transpersons — in the jurisdiction of Faqeerabad police station. They added that a passerby also sustained injuries in the attack.

The city police had said that Umar Nawab alias Asma Shah died, while Maqsood alias Garma, Irfan alias Bijli and a passerby, Ibrar, sustained injuries in the attack.
