GUJRAT: A prayer leader allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and her brother over a dispute at Sheikha Tahir village in the Kharian Saddar police jurisdiction on Sunday.

Qari Abu Bakar of Chiniot district was a prayer leader in the village mosque for the sometime and he lived there with his wife and two children. He developed some differences with his wife some days ago when his brother brought a woman who allegedly eloped with him to his house.

His wife objected to the couple’s presence in their house and they had to leave. When the tension in the house aggravated, Bakar’s brother-in-law Muhammad Saleem, a resident of Khushab, reached there on Saturday to arrange reconciliation between his sister and her husband.

During the arguments, Qari Bakar opened fire at Saleem with a pistol and killed him on the spot and later shot his wife dead. After committing the murders, he shot himself with the same pistol.

The police shifted the bodies to the Kharian Civil Hospital where autopsy was conducted. A case was registered under Section 302 of the PPC on report of Kalsoom Bibi, the sister of deceased woman and her brother.
