HARIPUR: A man convicted of triple murder was hanged in the Haripur Central Jail here on Thursday morning.

According to jail sources, the execution took place at 6:00am and a judicial magistrate, jail superintendent and medical officer were also present on this occasion. The convict, Saiful Islam, was earlier allowed last meeting with his family on Wednesday before his shifting to the cell adjacent to gallows. His body was later handed over to the heirs.

Jail record shows that Saiful Islam, a resident of Akbarabad Kallay in Mardan, had killed three people and injured two others during a jirga that was held to resolve a property dispute between the parties on July 4, 2006.

He was sentenced to death from the court of additional district judge, Mardan, and the conviction was upheld both by the Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court. His mercy petition was also rejected by the President of Pakistan on January 9. His black warrants were issued from the home department, Peshawar, two days ago. Official sources said that there were a total of 59 condemned prisoners in the death cells of Haripur Central Jail.
