MULTAN: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday visited Multan to take up the issue of protest launched by a group of lawyers against the shifting of the sessions courts to the new Judicial Complex which, it says, lacks facilities.

Earlier on Monday, a delegation of lawyers in Lahore held a meeting with the chief justice who informed them that he would visit the Judicial Complex and hear them out.

The chief justice, accompanied by members of the Pakistan Bar Council, the Lahore High Court Bar Association president and other lawyers’ representatives, reached Multan Bench building and held a meeting with the two groups of lawyers -- one demanding re-shifting of courts at previous place near Kutchery Chowk and the others who are opposing it.

The chief justice also paid a visit to the judicial complex on Mattital Road. He is reported to have asked the lawyers to end their protest on the commitment that he would discuss their demands with Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as the matter falls in his jurisdiction. He said funds would be provided for the construction of lawyers’ chambers at the new complex.

The lawyers, however, refused to end their protest and said they would not give up till the acceptance of their demands.
