QUETTA: District and Sessions Judge Rashid Mehmood on Monday granted interim bail to Gazain Marri, son of Baloch nationalist leader the late Khair Bakhsh Marri, in the murder case of Justice Nawaz Marri of the Balochistan High Court.

Mr Gazain’s lawyer had filed the bail petition and Justice Mehmood, after hearing the arguments, issued the interim bail order requiring the applicant to submit a surety bond worth Rs1 million.

Justice Nawaz was on his way to the Balochistan High Court on Jan 7, 2000 when armed men attacked him on Zarghoon Road.

On Saturday, the same court had remanded Gazain Marri in the custody of Kohlu Levies for five days for investigation in a 2004 bomb blast case. He was in Dubai when the incident took place. Gazain Marri was arrested at Quetta airport on Friday after he arrived from Dubai, ending his 18-year self-exile.

Before landing at Quetta, he had got from the Sindh High Court protective bail in the murder case till Sept 27.
