SWABI: The four-day budget session of the district council ended here on Friday with smooth passage of the Rs6.9 billion budget for the fiscal year 2017-18.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf is the only opposition party in the district council, while the remaining seven parties are part of the ruling Swabi Democratic Alliance (SDA).

However, SDA leaders have devised a plan to have opposition on board in distribution of uplift funds, after the latter helped pass the budget unanimously.

Talking to Dawn, district nazim Ameer Rehman said in the budget total Rs4.7 billionhad been allocated for education, adding the district government also planned to upgrade Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Shahmansoor.

Mr Rehman said Rs2.1 billionhad been allocated for payment of salary and pensions and meeting other needs of the government employees.

He said for health sector they had set aside Rs768 million, while Rs175 millionhad been allocated for welfare and education of special persons.

He said the funds would be distributed among the councillors equally.

DRC BUILDING: Speakers at a function on Friday noted that the Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) had succeeded in settling disputes and people had been educated about their critical role in ending rivalries at the local level.

The function was held on the occasion of inaugurating construction of DRC building in Razaar tehsil.

The building would be constructed inside the Kalu Khan police station. The meeting was attended by leaders of political parties, DRC members and local government representatives.

Ghulam Haqqani, Tehsil Razaar Nazim, and Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf, district police officer, inaugurated the building.

Mr Haqqani said Rs2 million had been allocated for construction of the building.

LONG WAIT: Students who appeared in FA/FSc examinations conducted by different boards of intermediate and secondary education said on Friday delay in declaration of results had stuck their admission process in different universities.

They told this correspondent that they had appeared in the entry test of the universities, which had demanded of them to deposit the fee as soon as possible.

However, they could not do so as they were awaiting declaration of results. They demanded that the result should be declared as soon as possible.
