Iran warns will hit 'militant safe havens' inside Pakistan

The head of the Iranian armed forces warned Islamabad on Monday that Tehran would hit bases inside Pakistan if the government does not confront militants who carry out cross-border attacks.

Ten Iranian border guards were killed by militants last month. Iran said Jaish-al-Adl, a militant group, had shot the guards with long-range guns, fired from inside Pakistan.

The border area has long been plagued by unrest from both drug smuggling gangs and separatist militants.

"We cannot accept the continuation of this situation," Major General Mohammad Baqeri, the head of the Iranian armed forces, was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.

"We expect the Pakistani officials to control the borders, arrest the terrorists and shut down their bases."

"If the terrorist attacks continue, we will hit their safe havens and cells, wherever they are," he said.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Pakistan last week and asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to improve border security. Pakistan assured Iran it would deploy additional troops along its border.

In 2014, Iran warned it would send troops to Pakistan to retrieve five Iranian border guards kidnapped by Jaish al Adl.

Pakistan said at the time that such action would be a violation of international law and warned Iranian forces not to cross the border.

Iran refrained from sending troops when a local cleric stepped in and resolved the situation.

Four of the guards were released a few months later, but one was killed by the militants.

Jaish al Adl is a militant group that has carried out several attacks against Iranian security forces with the aim of highlighting what they say is discrimination against minority groups in Iran.

The group claimed responsibility for attacks that killed eight border guards in April 2015 and 14 border guards in October 2013.

every border problem

fairy May 08, 2017 02:42pm

We are in dire need of a competent Foreign Minister.

thuglife May 08, 2017 02:43pm

you have every right to protest. Iranians are our brothers after all

Babur May 08, 2017 02:43pm

O.M.A! Iran needs some cpec too. They are getting stronger

mandy May 08, 2017 02:45pm

After surgical strike on the eastern border, time for some action on the western borders of Pakistan!!!

Ali May 08, 2017 02:46pm

Thanks to PM foreign policies.....India, Afghanistan and now Iran

fareed hussain May 08, 2017 02:46pm

so another enemy in the making at time when we thought we have a friend on the west side, thanks to the overwhelming support of Pakistanis to Saudis' brutal acts in Yemen..

Naveed May 08, 2017 02:46pm

No you should not. It's very critical time for both countries and such actions will make things worse. This is really sad that all regional countries are playing in the hands of terrorists.

Mahmood May 08, 2017 02:47pm

Here we go. That's all Pakistan needs. More hostile neighbors and hitting targets inside this country with impunity.

This is a direct cause of poor foreign relations management, by an incompetent leadership and a PM, who doubles as a FM - but cannot perform either roles adequately.

Who needs enemies when we have such angry 'brothers' on our door steps??

maverik May 08, 2017 02:48pm

Iran taking advantage of the "hot iron". Not good. Pakistan can revive Kalbhosan's ghost for Iran.

Mahrukh May 08, 2017 02:48pm

This is what happens if you show weakness to one! Can't resist the urge to speak up as FO and shut them all for once!

Pakistani May 08, 2017 02:50pm

Very very foolish to create problem on Iran border, totally unnecessary.

ABE May 08, 2017 02:50pm

As I've said before, welcome to 'Naya Pakistan' where we are not fighting any declared war with India, but have hostile neighbors on each side. Time to reflect or deflect. We cannot afford to be fighting each neighbor. Poor leadership results in badly bungled foreign relations.

Yesterday's border clashes with Afghans may pale in comparison if Iranians act against us.

No Thanks !! May 08, 2017 02:51pm

This is serious ....only solution is a strong Civilian Government in Pakistan which will be welcomed wholeheartedly by all ! All neighbours are in agreement with the same.

Falcon1 May 08, 2017 02:51pm

I have a solution. Send our FM quickly to Iran to defuse the situation.

Oh but wait!! He's too busy putting out Panama Leaks fires.

Yasir saeed May 08, 2017 02:51pm

Iran is one of the most safest heavens for terrorists funded by both RAW and Iranian intelligence. Kalbushan Yadev, Uzair Baloch and others are the examples of terrorists who take shelter in Iran after conducting terrorist activities in Pakistan.

Asif Kashmiri May 08, 2017 02:52pm

Being a Pakistani I totally agree with Iran - terroists are terrorists and should be destroyed

Balakrishnan May 08, 2017 02:53pm

All neighbors except China complaining of safe heaven of militants in Pak soil. If this issue addressed all the unrest will get resolved.

Chaudhry May 08, 2017 02:53pm

Opportunist vultures, our so called brothers. Probably they were waiting for a situation where Pakistan is engaged with other enemies, to show their bravery.

Moiz sheikh May 08, 2017 02:54pm

Too much international pressure.

We need to change our foreign policies and foreign minister. We should really evaluate who is our friendly country and who is not.

Whether Its Iran, India or Afghanistan, proper response should be given in case of any attack.

aqdas May 08, 2017 02:54pm

Seems they want us to join the Saudi led alliance after all!

RAHUL May 08, 2017 02:56pm

@mandy A surgical strike which your own military denies? How do you guys decide which surgical strike to believe and which one not to? :D

Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY May 08, 2017 02:56pm

@fairy You are so right. I just don't understand why Pakistan doesn't have a Foreign Minister? So many serious International Issues are taking place which only a Foreign Minister through his or her expertise can solve.

dynamite May 08, 2017 02:56pm we go from the west !

asif May 08, 2017 02:56pm

Pakistan should abandon its policies of good bed and useful terrorists the common Pakistanis paid in thousands of numbers their lives because of this policy our neighbors are angry with us too iran is the country which is the first one to accept Pakistan as the state they took us to United nations and they have long history of cultural and brotherhood even our national anthem is written in Persian

Hadi May 08, 2017 02:56pm

@mandy Surgical strikes on Indian media only, not in Pakistani Kashmir :-)

Zahid Haroon May 08, 2017 02:57pm

@mandy thanks to tention on eastern border that 21 BSF officer inducted refused to join.

a May 08, 2017 02:57pm

As you sow, so shall you reap

Sami Ullah Swati May 08, 2017 02:58pm

Do we have friendly neighbors or something wrong with our government who lacks in a foreign minister even though have so many spokes persons to cover Panamagate!

Imtiaz May 08, 2017 02:58pm

Why are there so many groups that hate Irans revolutionary government. Surely there is something that the Iranians are not doing right.

Akber May 08, 2017 02:58pm

This not Iraq or Syria..............this is Pakistan.

Dunch May 08, 2017 02:58pm

We must be doing something right..........Everybody seems to like us a lot.....

Kkl May 08, 2017 02:58pm

And that's called isolation my friend.

nadir baloach May 08, 2017 02:58pm

Why we always play on defensive side & why not pro-Active in our foreign Policy.

Asim Sultan May 08, 2017 02:59pm

Iran, you are on the wrong side. Your threats and actions across the Arab world and in neighbouring countries are wrong and you will reap what you are sowing. Stop threatening Pakistan. You have few friends left,

Samatk May 08, 2017 02:59pm

This just proves that Iran is not our friend in an meaning of the word...Iran couldn't have used any worst timing to criticise Pakistan at the border issues...

harish chaudhary May 08, 2017 03:00pm

@Ali IAF (India Afghan Iran) will do anything if u remove terrorism . because we all brother.

usman May 08, 2017 03:00pm

@mandy fake surgical strikes you mean ?

Sheraz May 08, 2017 03:00pm

Pakistan needs some answers regarding Iranian intelligence agencies sheltering Indian spies. Better answer or we are quite capable of rooting them out..Choice is yours..

Patriot May 08, 2017 03:00pm

Why our country is still safe sanctuary for terrorists despite massive military operations ? Iran has legitimate concern we have to get rid off fringe elements operating from our territory.

ZAHEer May 08, 2017 03:01pm

Cat comes out of bag, now Iran threatening Pakistan due to our poor foreign policy as there is no foreign minister since four years secondly we consider all Muslim countries like our brothers but in response some attack our innocent civilians and census team and other giving warning to us. We will be treated like this until and unless we believe in "Sab Se Pehle Pakistan" (Pakistan first)

M. Saeed Awan May 08, 2017 03:02pm

What about Kulboshan Yadhav' s companions safe heaven in Iran?

Pk May 08, 2017 03:02pm

Ofcourse Iran!! Every country has right to defend its mother land.

Sab se pehle pakistan May 08, 2017 03:04pm

Another example of pathetic governance by PML-N. We don't have a foreign minister. The entire nation is with and behind Pakistan Army.

Shawn May 08, 2017 03:04pm

Good now they ll finally stop messing with pakistan or tit for tat

Akram May 08, 2017 03:04pm

What is wrong if Iran targets terrorist bases inside our territory? I think we should facilitate them rather than discourage them.

Ali May 08, 2017 03:05pm

@Chaudhry try and do some introspection chaudhry saheb....stop pointing finger at everyone and reflect where are we going wrong....

younis pathan May 08, 2017 03:06pm

when a country has no foreign minister, such threats will continue.

Qaiser May 08, 2017 03:06pm

Faisal Bajwa May 08, 2017 03:06pm

Growing hostilities on all our borders is a combination of our foreign policy failure and our credibility to deter.

SAEED MASOOD May 08, 2017 03:07pm

Get out of these proxy wars immediately, we have enough of other problems.

Asim Sultan May 08, 2017 03:08pm

@Balakrishnan Yes these all neighbours have created nexus of India-Iran-Afghanistan, they are just doing because of their ulterior motives. But we Pakistani will defeat them.

Ali May 08, 2017 03:08pm

Are we nuclear armed country????

Ali May 08, 2017 03:08pm

@Imtiaz yup...they are nor volunteering themselves into Slavery for US and have the spine to confront arrogance...if you cant take inspiration atleast do not criticize.

Zohaib May 08, 2017 03:09pm

Nothing unexpected.

KT May 08, 2017 03:10pm

Better identify and hand the culprits to Iran in case they have crossed border and commited crime law of Iran gets applicable.

fazal May 08, 2017 03:10pm

Do Pakistan have any foreign policy at all????

SIKAPHCROT May 08, 2017 03:11pm

All the neighbors cannot be crazy (India , Afganistan , Iran)

Samatk May 08, 2017 03:11pm

@M. Saeed Awan Good question..Just remember how defensive Iran became when they were accused of sheltering Indian spies.

PKS May 08, 2017 03:13pm

What more confirmation needed? Muslim countries also started to blame.

Vishal May 08, 2017 03:13pm

Iran, Afghanistan and India - all say about militancy from safe heaves within Pakistan but Pakistan does not listen. U r creating more issues for your own self. Proxy wars will make your country in vulnerable situations.

Mubarak May 08, 2017 03:13pm

Does Saudi alliance wants to use Pakistan against Iran? Pakistan has to destroy these private armies who are using religion to hurt Pakistan and her neighbour.

Ths May 08, 2017 03:13pm

Pakistan has lost its trust from its neighbours from terrorists presence on its borders.

Asim Sultan May 08, 2017 03:14pm

Iran loosing friends on very fast track.

Indian4RMBLORE May 08, 2017 03:14pm

@Asim Sultan We r Iran frnds, wish to b Pakistan frnd also, but Pakistan should remove these so called non state actors

Aamir May 08, 2017 03:15pm

Joint Military operations between Pakistan and Iran and Pakistan and Afghanistan on borders would clear terrorists in no time .

Abdul Majeed sheikh May 08, 2017 03:16pm

The nexus of anti Pakistan on the behest of "terrorists" jargon want to threaten Pakistan. remember where Mr. Mubark (Klubushan Jhadev) was nurtured and owns speed boots located at Chaharbahar. Was he a preacher or a "terrorist master-mind"

Iran wants to destablise the region new allingments with USA, India and Afghanistan

Ths May 08, 2017 03:16pm

Pakistan must end these safe havens for terrorists .

akzis May 08, 2017 03:17pm

@Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY It's so sad when educated people speak abt the Foreign Minister slot. The constitution allows the Prime Minister to have 5 Advisors, who enjoy the position of Full Federal Minister. Mr. Sartaj Aziz is working on that position and goes to both Upper and Lower Houses for the QnA and briefing sessions. Hence, let's stop this illogical query about the foreign minister. Secondly, Iran should first clean the mess of RAW at its land, who's hurting us, else we are also entitled for the same strike at Chabahar similarly as the rhetoric is hurled at us.

Ths May 08, 2017 03:17pm

Joint military operations along the borders with Iran and Afghanistan would benefit everyone.

Yaqut khan May 08, 2017 03:18pm

Iran is showing its true colours.

Qasim May 08, 2017 03:21pm

Opportunistic worms coming out . Don't try to create unrest in Pakistan as we will not tolerate any of the threats and if any excitement is shown then Iran will face the worst possible consequence of it. This is all coming because they are not happy for Raheel Sharif to be the head of 34 nation Saudi alliance.

azadi dil KI May 08, 2017 03:21pm

Now strategic strike from Iran, why can't control those who are responsible. Have some sense.

Immo May 08, 2017 03:21pm

Iran has done nothing but caused problems for Pakistan Iran is the launching pad for Indian intelligence officers

Tariq, Lahore May 08, 2017 03:23pm

Dexter May 08, 2017 03:24pm

@Sheraz "Better answer or we are quite capable of rooting them out..Choice is yours.." Which world do you live in sir??? Seriously makng threats to everyone, are you even aware of ground realities?? Ridiculous self boasting mate...

Asim Sultan May 08, 2017 03:25pm

The terror nexus in Iran against Pakistan has been caught red handed. They are supporters and financiers of our enemies. They developed Chah Bahar with the Indian Money, they sent Indian operatives to kill innocent Pakistanis. We know it very well.

optimist rajput May 08, 2017 03:25pm

Iran is just upset of Raheel Sharif's appointment as head of military alliance. Nothing new

Nomi Goraya May 08, 2017 03:27pm

Comments always swell like balloon if there is some statement against Pakistan so much love from across the border. Even the guys tend to believe those people who have no credibility at home. We are Pakistan so love us or hate us we are here to stay.... Days change and be assured that in this world we are on right path

Protest May 08, 2017 03:27pm

It's time of restraint.

Qasim May 08, 2017 03:28pm

@Asim Sultan well said bro the nexus is being created to hurt Pakistan as we are not taking dictations from them. Iran has always been involved in Baluchistan and never were or are friends. We should be careful at this stage and take a step back and should try to defuse the situation.

yaser arafat May 08, 2017 03:28pm

Disturbance at Afghan border and now Iran, this is not simply coincidence. This is reflection and pressure building strategy due to punishment of Kalbushan! Now we should very about our enemies and friends.

alok May 08, 2017 03:29pm

Border problem with INDIA, AFGHANISTAN AND IRAN. Invest in education and jobs. This is taking Pakistan no where. Invest in your people.

Irfan mirza May 08, 2017 03:30pm

Iran-Kalbhoshan nexus is still very confusing. Why was he using Iranian territory as a base for his activities against Pakistan?

alok May 08, 2017 03:31pm

@Mahmood : Who is your brother and who is the enemy. The enemy is illiteracy and poverty. Grow UP.

Ash May 08, 2017 03:31pm

When you have no foreign minister and an MP awhile is busy ribbon cutting then you will have these probablems. PM NS is totally to blame for this. He needs to resign as all his attention is on panama and dawn leaks. He has no time to deal with anything else.

zafar ahmed May 08, 2017 03:31pm

Three bordering countries are threatening to strike inside Pakistan to destroy the bases of terrorists.. What is going on & where we stands !

Sunil Varma May 08, 2017 03:32pm

@SIKAPHCROT " All the neighbors cannot be crazy (India , Afghanistan , Iran) "

I agree 100%.

zafar ahmed May 08, 2017 03:32pm Very much true as we are facing on all borders !

Dil Dil Pakistan May 08, 2017 03:33pm

Foolish statement

Prateik May 08, 2017 03:34pm

Iran is unhappy with Pakistan joining Saudi led alliance.

Kamran May 08, 2017 03:34pm

I assume Iranian didn't make this statement without any prove. Let's wait & see response from this end.

pakistani May 08, 2017 03:35pm

Clear your safe heaven first before point out your finger to others. There are many example RAW spy, Aman committee leaders, BLF leaders, etc.

Stop sending Afghan for fight in Syria by threatening to kill their families, stop supporting Houthis,...

Do not think to enter otherwise there will be reaction...

This all games is organized by RAW, first Afghan and now Iran to cope Pak from all 3 sides of border...

akzis May 08, 2017 03:35pm

@azadi dil KI because you can control your own men only, you can't control men sent by them to kill their own soldiers and to create a melodrama.

Dear Irani people, please make your establishment understand that these games can work in hollow regimes like Syria, Iraq and Yemen and not in Pakistan.

Pakistani agencies know that these notorious warriors who hit irani soldiers, came from the same place from where Mullah Mansoor entered in Pakistan.

amnagi May 08, 2017 03:36pm

Now all our neighbors are angry with us due to blatant chaperoning of militant groups. I wonder, when policy makers will open their eyes and start seeing the world with a realistic perspective.

SLIDER May 08, 2017 03:37pm

Iran is a dangerous and untrustworthy player. Indians were helping and stood thick and skin when they faced sanctions. Now they have double crossed by not awarding development of oil field to ONGC , India. India has retaliated by curbing import of crude oil . Think they are more fair weather friends..

Asim Sultan May 08, 2017 03:41pm

@fareed hussain You forgot your favourite Iran's Action in Syria, Iraq and now in Pakistan. Kalbhushan Yadev, Uzair Baloch, Baba Ladla and all other terrorists have spent their safest time in Iranian safe heavens. Stop always blaming Pakistan.

Kamran May 08, 2017 03:41pm

@amnagi endorsed.

my Comments May 08, 2017 03:41pm

If there was a full time foreign minister in Pakistan, he/she could discuss and speak out on border problems with neighbors. But wait a minuet. Does any one remember through which country that KalBhoshan fellow entered into Pakistan? If it was Iran, than they should seal the border to prevent Indian spies crossing into Pakistan.

Hope May 08, 2017 03:43pm

Well played RAW... Chankia philosophy is playing is role where a neighbour neighbours are ur friend and ur neighbour is ur enemy... RAW Trying to influence Iran and Afghanistan to detsbailize sit on Pakistani borders . aim is to hide world attention towards Kashmir... Iran and Afghanistan are so called Muslims. Well played India

An Ordinary Pakistani!!! May 08, 2017 03:45pm

You must have been sleeping for the last 1-2 years....while your were having sweet dreams about our "neighbors" missed the news about Mr. Uzair Baloch a known terrorist and an Iranian agent and Kulbhoshan the Indian agent...did Iran facilitate Pakistan in getting these culprits or actually made every effort to stop us....

Raja farhat Abbas May 08, 2017 03:45pm

@mandy ...Fake surgical strikes like the Indians then we should not worry!!.The 3 of you Afghan/Iran/India can try what you like,Pakistan will make you regret your actions!!.

A.M. Khawar May 08, 2017 03:47pm

And now “Iran warns will hit militant 'safe havens' inside Pakistan”---Dawn. Major General Mohammad Baqeri, the head of the Iranian armed forces reportedly made the following statement: "We expect the Pakistani officials to control the borders, arrest the terrorists and shut down their bases." Now who can disagree with his demand? Would we not demand the same actions if terrorist from Iran were killing people inside Pakistan borders? Why can’t we shut down the terrorist bases? India and Afghanistan has repeatedly made similar demands. Now three out of our four neighbors are asking us to shut down terrorist bases inside our borders. We are reinforcing the world image of Pakistan harboring terrorists who attack the neighboring countries. Are we going to do it now, or, are we going to do it after an ugly war breaks out with one or more of the neighbors? For God sake, wake up! Now! Please!

Khan USA May 08, 2017 03:47pm

India , Afghanistan and now Iran , where are we heading to ?

Najeeb Rohilla May 08, 2017 03:58pm

The quarters controlling the foreign policy, need to think again. This action of Iran is predicted as our ex coas joining the Saudi coalition. Now only two side are secure, one with China and other with sea.

What do you expect, India invested 12 billion in the deep port chababr....the Indians have called upon their investment so of course they will be threatening.....remember people, India will be asking all her allies to derail Pakistan....Pakistan, need to fence its borders...and destroy all terrorist organisation using its soil for launch pads.....Pakistan cannot ignore this situation. If Iran attacks then Pakistan must call upon Saudi and her allies to retaliate...and china to help keep India in check....Pakistan needs to close of its border to Afghanistan as a matter of urgency and fence its not allow Afghanistan room to negotiation isolation even UN and USA trucks...they should by now be flying in and out of Afghanistan.

Desi dimag May 08, 2017 03:58pm

Why doesn't Pakistan stop terror camps?

Hafeez May 08, 2017 03:59pm

People cheer for military controlling every bit of the foreign policy. But when they end-up screwing everything, people blame the civil govt. In such circumstances, what is the purpose of having a FM.

Mahmood May 08, 2017 04:00pm

I blame NS personally for this debacle, since he is the self-appointed Foreign Minister.

It is a disgrace that he cannot even maintain good relations with our one neighbor who has more in common with us than the Arabs.

john cool May 08, 2017 04:02pm

akzis May 08, 2017 04:02pm

@A.M. Khawar We are already awake! Iran needs to wakeup now, enough is enough. Iran's sinful agennds won't work at their eastern side Mr. Khawar, they can enjoy it towards north, south and west. Can you still not figure out the timing of both of the irani and aafghani episodes! Don't you think it has an indirect connection with Kashmir unrest?

Shehzad May 08, 2017 04:03pm

These are oil smugglers on both sides of the border.

They keep on creating mayhem and kill border guards on both sides of the border. Please read in quotes what he said and leave the rest.

But yes, our FM aka PM, have been too busy putting off fire in Panama Leaks to do anything else.

@mandy, Its not a Bollywood movie.... Surgical strikes....ahh do you even know its meaning....

FN May 08, 2017 04:12pm

Iran has habit of cross border interference. First in Iraq, then Bahrain, Lebnan, Syria. Now in Pakistan.

Monsieur May 08, 2017 04:13pm

its amazing how there are references to India, RAW and Afghanistan below in the comments .... and this after a warning from Iran, a soveriegn country, to Pakistan .... Pakistan seems to have problems on all its borders .... time for Pakistanis to retrospect and not blame all and sundry for its incompetency

Qom May 08, 2017 04:13pm

What about safe heavens of terrorists in Iran? It's not that their hands are clean.

Anwar May 08, 2017 04:15pm

First India, then Afghanistan, now Iran are threatened by so-called Pakistani terrorists. Should we wait for similar reaction from China?

anjum ksa May 08, 2017 04:15pm

@Shehzad iran's FM should resign for the nondiplomatic rhetoric by his unprofessional and insincere general. And then they say that Pakistan needs an FM. FO should lodge a strong protest with irani ambassador.

sana-1 May 08, 2017 04:16pm

Oh Iran seems to be irked by General Raheel sharif! But what to do? There is nothing much Iran can do :)

Indian4RMBLORE May 08, 2017 04:20pm

@A.M. Khawar Nice thoughts sir.

swaroop May 08, 2017 04:20pm

@Mahmood its not failure of foerign policy but the result of Good terrorist and Bad Terrorist policy.

sherryaar May 08, 2017 04:21pm

iran is loosing its senses very quickly .. they should think 100 times before they say anything like that ... iran should stop funding IS and taking indian side. they should keep their house in order first !!

Dr. Salaria, Aamir Ahmad May 08, 2017 04:21pm

What a silly joke?

Joe May 08, 2017 04:21pm

@Yasir saeed So if you have the information why don't you say the same to Iran that you will strike terrorist camps within Iran.

Zahid M Malik May 08, 2017 04:22pm

guys, india is major buyer of iranian oil, he will do all it need to please its customer.

Skeptic May 08, 2017 04:25pm

@swaroop - Who defines which is a 'good' or a 'bad' terrorist? The word terror itself does not allow for differentiation. So no self-appointed policeman of the world or power has a right to put its own spin.

One man's 'Freedom Fighter' could be regarded as a 'Terrorist' by other. In that case, the goals are vastly different between the former and later.

All terror is bad, no matter who is backing it.

Mashad May 08, 2017 04:25pm

Here comes the trouble after Raheel Sharif took over the command of coalition force. Our worst fear coming true.

Waqar May 08, 2017 04:25pm

Ashraf May 08, 2017 04:25pm

More fake surgical strikes now ? India is behind these empty statements pak army zindabad

Time to think May 08, 2017 04:26pm

Its big time for Pakistan to think on its policies. Most of her neighbours are complaining and the world will see that.

timetostopthis May 08, 2017 04:35pm

@Moiz sheikh This has nothing to do with your foreign policies. Surely you cant be so innocent that you cant figure out where the problem lies.

Salman khan May 08, 2017 04:35pm

This was bound to happen after Raheel Sharif decision to lead alliance.

deepak NZ May 08, 2017 04:35pm

@Asim Sultan - Iran has more friends tha Pakistan... Russia, India and China are Iran's friend

Zafar Ahmed May 08, 2017 04:36pm

The king now must realize and feel serious to run the country. There is no F.M and the NS wants himself to handle foreign office and all matters also. So ridiculous to deal with the neighbors by Fatimi and S.Aziz, old and retired people can not even sometime know, where they are working. No interests at this age. The N.S must take foreign minister

Salman khan May 08, 2017 04:36pm

@mandy No, because it is only Indian Janta that can buy such a fairy tale story called 'surgical strikes'.

Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY May 08, 2017 04:36pm

@akzis What a strange comment. So the PM of Pakistan has not one but 5 Advisors. When these five Advisors discuss foreign policy matters with PM,he gets five different versions of the same issue? sounds very logical to you? Too many cooks spoil the dish? Thank God the other educated countries of the world have Foreign Ministers.

KSRana May 08, 2017 04:37pm

@Zahid M Malik Indian oil import doped by 30% with Iran.

tahir saleem May 08, 2017 04:39pm

Iran: You must DO MORE, to stop the elements like "Kulbhushan Jadhav" to enter in Pakistan.

Zain Hasan May 08, 2017 04:41pm

@People criticizing Iran

I want to ask an honest question. What would Pakistan's reaction will be if our FC, Rangers or army at the border is targeted by non-state actors in Iran? What will we do if our security personnel are kidnapped and killed by militants in Iran? Will we not react the same way?

The report clearly tells about the incidents that happened against Iran, yet we are only focusing on the threats given by Iran.

Falcon May 08, 2017 04:41pm

@mandy LOL at your alleged Surgical Strike; a lollypop given to charged right-wing Indian people to soothe them down after Uri incident. No evidence was ever given and only statements by Army Chief and PM Modi were issued to blow the propaganda out of proportion.

HAMza May 08, 2017 04:42pm

@Balakrishnan Iran has signed multi billion dollar projects with Modi. The latter giving hundreds of millions in aid to Afghanistan. Are you surprised these countries are speaking up now? In 70 years no such problem, why now?

khanm May 08, 2017 04:42pm ... Is it really because of the border or may be our involvement in so-called Islamic alliance...Time to introspect if all are neighbors are unhappy with us...

M Jamal May 08, 2017 04:47pm

If this news is correct then something is wrong with us as now everyone one is pointing finger because of terrorism originating from our country. I fear the only neighbour left is China might also get against us too.

Zealot May 08, 2017 04:48pm

Will you Point out Safe Heavens Of such terror Outfit,This require providing Logistics Support isnot?

and Then by such propoganda No matter Even if we ISOLATED in whole world If we are Strong from Inside,We can Crush These FOOLS outside for such statements

Aayan May 08, 2017 04:50pm

Difficult situation for pakistan. All neighbors are threatening. Time to introspect and eliminate all terrorist groups including good terrorist. Also can make joint plan and strategy with all neighbors to eliminate terrorist.

merit May 08, 2017 04:51pm

Why Iranian guards not taking necessary precautions and safety measures despite being aware about the threat? Why Pakistan side has not targeted Jaish Al Adl ?

M.Saeed May 08, 2017 04:51pm

@mandy: Remember, now you have CPEC to deal with on Eastern borders and who is responsible for its safety. Your paid troublemakers anywhere, are well known and being watched for mischieves.

Mohammad Ghouri May 08, 2017 04:57pm

sohail May 08, 2017 05:14pm

Wow our government and army are doing great job in making good foreign relations. Which country shall we make enemies with next

M. Siddique May 08, 2017 05:16pm

Pakistan should expel all the Jundallah extremists and hand them over to Iran.

de bannu khan May 08, 2017 05:17pm

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Pakistan last week and it was decided to work together against Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group. Now hardly a week has passed and an Iranian general has presented his war plan as if Zarif visit to Pakistan never took place and as if Pakistan will sleep tight if you hit Pakistani lands. When Pakistan - Iran are cooperating on the border issue then what's the point of giving aggressive statements against Pakistan? Isn't it undiplomatic? Shouldn't Jawad Zarif give a shutup call to this arrogant gen?

Any aggression against Pakistan will be taken as an act of war and Pakistan Army enjoys it's sovereign right to defend it's inches with full force.

Strange timing: All time high Kashmir unrest, Afghani firing and now the inappropriate and false warning by this irani general.

Waiting for Haseena Wajid to use some venomous language as she's the only one left.

Faisal May 08, 2017 05:17pm

Iran has problems with Saudies, Bahrainies, UAE, Syrian and Iraqi people, and now with Pakistan as well. I think Iran has lost it

Fahim khan May 08, 2017 05:19pm

If we are ready to learn any lesson, we should dismantle this business of non state actors from the soil of Pakistan.

Temo Shanko May 08, 2017 05:20pm

First India then Afganistan & now Iran. Pakistan must get rid of good and bad terrorists for its own good and prosperity.

Shahid May 08, 2017 05:22pm

Firstly, Iranians should think twice before opening their mouth as in this case, it is not Saudi Arabia or Iraq they are addressing to. By issuing such ill spoken statements, they will also lose that support of the vast majority in this country which has always stood up to our government's intentions to side with the Arabs in Iran-Arab conflicts. Secondly, our government and the army must listen to the Iranian concerns and destroy if any bases used by the anti terrorists. How can we justify our concerns against the Afghani government for not eliminating TTP bases in Afghanistan if we do not listen to the Iranian concerns at the same time. Lastly, we who were against Raheel Sharif being allowed to head the Saudi military alliance, are being proved right that it will have dangerous consequences for Pakistan and that we are compromising our own security and geo-political balance just to please Saudi Arabia.

Arshad May 08, 2017 05:24pm

Iran should know by now that terrorist are simply terrorist and not Shia or Sunni. If it was possible to check them then the world would have been free of terrorism. In-fact Iran will be playing into the hands of terrorist if they take any reckless action. Actually they should have discussion and exchange of information with all parties involved to root out terrorism. They should also examine the role of anti-Muslim countries who want to create conflict in this area.

Faisal May 08, 2017 05:30pm

@M. Siddique jash al adl is iran based, they are fighting for their rights in Iran

Amar May 08, 2017 05:31pm

Why does Pakistani people want to champion the Muslim world that's not how a state is run. We must be a secular state and have good ties with everyone for example if having trade with Israel requires us to recognize them then so be it. That's how China is second biggest country in the world now financially.

Arjun May 08, 2017 05:32pm

@sohail You're right everyone can't be wrong always. Pak Foreign policy is expired. Same its not working well with India too.

The end is near May 08, 2017 05:34pm

Good work Iran. These are the results of very weak, corrupt and incompetent goverment of Pakistan.

vishal May 08, 2017 05:34pm

Time for introspection for Pakistan. Why most of the neighbor countries are having problem!

Syed Jafri May 08, 2017 05:38pm

To all those who are complaining we dont have a foreign minister- our foreign policies are not designed by the elected govt anyways so why have a FM.

Mr Satyabrat D Singh May 08, 2017 05:47pm

One more Nation complaining about it. Will anyone complain without reasons?

EDU May 08, 2017 05:49pm

On a positive note, at least this helps Pakistan's case to solve Balochistan issue. The people will be united and start having faith in their country's Army to protect against foreign aggression.

Waseem May 08, 2017 05:57pm

Now Iran. Time to reflect: why all of our neighbors are bad and only we are good?

kuNAL MAJUMDAR May 08, 2017 05:59pm

@Asim Sultan: Someone is losing friends fast and that's not Iran.

TechScribe May 08, 2017 06:03pm

@Raja farhat Abbas India is a free country. We get to watch most television channel around the world and there is plenty of information available on the net. We are not idiots and we can separate chaff from the grain.

Baba bandook May 08, 2017 06:08pm

@vishal India has always had a problem regardless any situation. Afghanistan has a problem because they are being dictated by Indians and Indians are splashing money on Afghans in return. Iran has a problem because Pakistani ex military chief has become the chief of Muslim military alliance in Saudi. So none of the concerns of all the aforementioned nations are genuine. Instead, all the above are coordinating in destabilising Pakistan which will not happen.

Dost Mohammed May 08, 2017 06:10pm

@Shehzad Spot on!

Aziz May 08, 2017 06:25pm

We joined Saudi Alliance for few pennies and destabalized our western boarder. I dont know why we want to bring war in middle east to our country.

Mushtaq May 08, 2017 06:32pm

I dont understand why we are so much intimidated by india. they are launching satellites everyday, we can't compete, they are producing billionaires, we can't compete. they are CEOs of world's biggest companies, we are no where there.. We can not even think of competing their IT industry. Moreover they are a open society with a lot of freedom and here we cant even access all the net and tv channels! And we shall leave this kashmir stigma, kashmir was never ours and will never be ours. why are we wasting our resources and relationships just for this unnecessary passion or may be just for politicians' self interest. Cant we emerge as a 'good' nation like many others in Asia or Europe? Even lanka and bangladesh are getting better than us on international stage. think !

EDU May 08, 2017 06:34pm

The people of Sistan Baluchestan want their voice to heard. Iran should stop bullying them just because they are Sunnis. These people have no religious and radical affiliations historically. They neither like Arabs, Afghans or Pakistanis. They are tribal people and like to have their own space. Solve this internal matter maturely.

amer abbas May 08, 2017 06:34pm

zak May 08, 2017 06:41pm

@mandy oh no, not another film. First Bollywood 'surgical strike' now a sequal from Iranwood. Reality is much different , 'surgery on the surgical strike'

Sukhera May 08, 2017 06:44pm

The Govt of Pakistan should ask the Iranian Govt to Cooperate with us and let us fight together against the enemy who are killing Iranian border guards. They should never be allowed to find a safe heaven in Pakistan .Any such attacks should never be allowed against a brotherly country. This is totally unacceptable. We should trace these criminals and bring then to justice.

arsalan May 08, 2017 06:47pm

Thankyou Iran. for harboring Terrorists like Kulbushan Yadhav. first clean your own house.

Rashid Siddiqui May 08, 2017 06:51pm

NAGARAJA B N May 08, 2017 06:56pm

@Patriot Excellent choice.

Dost Mohammed May 08, 2017 06:57pm

@Joe Even you have :). Look up the Diesel + Petrol number's for sale in Baluchistan during past decade . Sales Graph will tell you what is happening. But if you ask General Mohammad Baqeri he thinks Trucks and cars in Baluchistan run on Air not smuggled Iranian Diesel+Petrol.

Nasir s. May 08, 2017 06:58pm

So what is the response of our government? Are the Iranians correct or not? If they ate correct then why do we have such groups operating on our territory and what exactly are our armed forces doing to secure our borders which is their primary task?

Syed zafar kazmi U.s.a May 08, 2017 06:59pm

@Faisal Hallucination would not be helpful

NAGARAJA B N May 08, 2017 07:02pm

@Qasim Should not tolerate. True. But what is the long term strategy and planning?

Sukhera May 08, 2017 07:20pm

@Samatk . Pakistani elements crossed the Iranian border and killed 10 Iranian Border guards. So what Iranian are supposed to do? Our govt is not doing anything to hunt down these people down and bring them to justice. What you will do if an armed group from Iran kills our security personnel? You would not say these things if that happens. Give peace a chance and work for peace rather than war. We should never hate anybody because of race, religion, color of the skin and the language they speak. These security guards had families/loved ones. Now all of a sudden they been taken away by terrorists who have no legitimate excuse for such actions.

Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY May 08, 2017 07:20pm

@de bannu khan Before meeting the PM what exactly do these 5 Advisors do? Are they Experts on Foreign Policy since they hold different portfolios so who among them is the one the PM is going to listen to and agree with his expert advice? There has to be someone definitely?

AD May 08, 2017 07:22pm

It is all about symptoms. The root cause remains elusive.

Anwar Sadiqque May 08, 2017 07:22pm

First leading a Saudi lead "anti-terror" army and now attacks on Iran. Pakistan needs a better foreign policy. Pakistan also has a long border and cultural ties with Iran. Saudia Arabia is far far away.

toris May 08, 2017 07:31pm

This is time to re-think about pakistan foreign policy. what is Pakistan's gain ? nothing only isolation

Faisal May 08, 2017 07:31pm

@Anwar Sadiqque Saudi Arabia is the nearest country to Pakistan

Asim A May 08, 2017 07:31pm

@fairy Just foreign minister? We are in dire need of sincere, honest and free from KSA's influence leadership.

javed akhter May 08, 2017 07:35pm

They are actually right. Some RAW supporters try to disturb the relation with Iran. Pakistan Government should spend alot of money on life and living of Balochi. and 100% attention needed .

UTPAL KUMAR BASU May 08, 2017 07:38pm

dear friends, before blaming any other country, blame terrorism only, which is the only enemy of our sub continent.

Aziz May 08, 2017 07:39pm

India has a dream of becoming a regional power and is now involved in making sure all neighboring countries submits to its power.
Idea is to make Pakistan so weak from outside and inside that it surrenders to the will of India. This idea is not a new one, it has happened all over the world. Problem with this sort of strategy is that it always backfires when you suppress people or countries to go along with you. A concept of making allies and partners is much more effective. India will grow ten folds if it starts making partners in region and gain the support of its neighboring countries and people.

AB, Us May 08, 2017 07:42pm

@fairy Need is not a foreign minister rather changing the state policy is the priority.

S.R. May 08, 2017 07:48pm

@Mushtaq very sensible and smart comments. Only if your politicians were not deaf.

May May 08, 2017 07:49pm

This has nothing to do with foreign policy. Pakistan must focus on domestic policy of getting rid of good and bad terrorists.

Hafeez, Canada May 08, 2017 07:50pm

We need a new govt . clean out of Panama case and Dawn Leaks to tackle all foreign issues. Iran protesting after one month ???

Hafeez, Canada May 08, 2017 07:52pm

Iran should understand that RAW agent Khubushan was operating from Iran. Those who live in glass house should not throw stones on others.

When our government will have time from Panama, Dawn, CPEC etc. to really do their job?

ANIR May 08, 2017 08:49pm

@Iqbal Hadi Zaidi China has strong business relations with India and Iran also. Major mobile companies have factories in India; Alibaba investing in billions in India. China is good in business and maintain relations with everyone.

Ali May 08, 2017 09:05pm

Iran threatens to go after terrorists in Pakistan? This is failure of our government to stop some individuals from attacking other countries. This problem can be easily solved by building border fence, or just mining the border, so no one can cross illegally.

PM Nawaz Sharif must also 'demand' Afghanistan and Iran to stop allowing their territory for terror groups launching attacks on Pakistan. If all the countries are sincere and cooperate can regional stability and peace be achieved.

Ahsan Jahangir May 08, 2017 09:07pm

Can someone from ISPR explain what's happening on our borders? A tweet or something maybe? The military is in control of that and they should respond to this situation. It's already a lot of mess on the Indian and Afghan border. We don't want any more trouble on the Iranian border. Maybe we need to do something about the anti iran groups in Pakistan.

Rehman May 09, 2017 02:12am

This is not a good situation. We cannot afford to antagonize all our neighbours including India, Iran, Afghanistan all at the same time. It also makes one wonder why is it that all of them are claiming that militants are finding safe havens inside our territory and attacking in their territory. Are they all lying? I don't know.

de bannu khan May 09, 2017 02:22am

@Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY Soomro Sab, there's only 1 advisor for foreign affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz (equal to federal minister), 1 for finance (Ishaq dar, also enjoyign status andprotocol of ffed minister), advisor to Prime Minister on federal departments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Ameer muqam. And so on..on.. Had the FM slot been vacant, then you could have raised your voice but Mr SA is serving as a full FM. Hope this clarifies the confusion. Every advisor has a different topic.

Ich Heisse May 09, 2017 02:40am

@Iqbal Hadi Zaidi

Mr. Zaidi: you are a former diplomat - so you surely understand that "an enemy's enemy is a friend".

India and China went to war in 1963 over Arunachal Pradesh (China calls it South Tibet) -- India and China only restored formal diplomatic relations in 1971 -- China sees India as a competitor -- that is THE ONLY reason why China supports pakistan.

RoHail May 09, 2017 04:57am

NP May 09, 2017 10:47am

@thuglife, what a misuse of word brotherhood!

NaradA Muni May 09, 2017 10:52am

@Zak : Just try it and you will cease to exist..

Sameer May 09, 2017 11:04am

Stupid move Iran. This will prove that Pk was right to shifting to Coaltion Support force and to Saudi Sheikhs. Trump considers Iran a problem and may consider Saudi support of Pakistan another chapter in US PK alliance.

Apalang May 09, 2017 11:25am

What about the safe havens provided to Indians in Iran causing problems for Pakistan!

RAAZ May 09, 2017 11:44am

@Mushtaq Another SINCERE voice in noise !!

DSK May 09, 2017 12:50pm

@Rehman , You very well know the answer, I mean who is lying..

PASHTUN_KHAN May 09, 2017 01:28pm

@fareed hussain the overwhelming Pakistanis want peace among Muslim countries and do not support the bombing of Muslim countries anywhere so you are wrong. This applies to Yemen as well as Syria and Iraq.

AbbI May 09, 2017 01:38pm

@Moiz sheikh you counldnt give a proper response to people within pakistan what you will give out.

Kr May 09, 2017 02:05pm

Lt. Gen Amjad Shoaib expressed in a private TV program that. " We cannot ignore 41 Islamic countries for one Iran"

He Further quoted , "Gen Raheel shareef is also willing to join the Islamic Military Alliance on voluntarily basis"

Point to be Noted: Will 41 Islamic countries help us now against India ,Afghanistan or Iran?

Asad May 09, 2017 02:06pm

@No Thanks !! Countries are not run to keep the neighbors happy. Self intrest comes first even if it requires cost to pay.!

ahmed May 09, 2017 02:32pm

Iran is supporting Indian RAW and Afghan NDS to spread terrorism in Pakistan.

At first i wanted Iran to be part of Islamic Military Alliance, but now i am happy that Iran is not a part of it.

Iran can stay with Indian-Afghanistan nexus.

Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY May 09, 2017 02:39pm

@de bannu khan Since you know so much about the present Govt.'s format. Are you holding some important portfolio yourself?

Farhat Hussain May 09, 2017 02:44pm

Iran has provided its passport to Uzair Baloch. Is it being provided on humanitarian grounds or encouraging terrorist in Pakistan? What about Gal Bhosan Yadev, from where he entered in Pakistan?.

Faisal May 09, 2017 03:22pm

@Zak just seal the border with Iran

Muhammad May 09, 2017 03:24pm

@Farhat Hussain "Iran has provided its passport to Uzair Baloch" a significant number of Baluch are dual national and they hold passports of both countries it is not new in Baluchistan and even in Karachi

Dinesh - nASHIK May 09, 2017 03:50pm

@Mushtaq , Very wise words... very well said... Its high time for Pakistan & Pakistani's need to think in right direction.. Just see how even smaller countries are progressing rapidly & you are still dreaming for nothing. better concentrate on poverty, education, electricity, infrastructure, terrorism like big issues which will make common Pakistani peoples life better. All the Best...!

Abdulla Hussain May 09, 2017 04:05pm

Iran looks angry for other reasons. Pakistan should do all to help Iran.

Usman Ghani May 09, 2017 04:34pm

@Asif Kashmiri spies are spies, no matter they come from India or Iran. Iran should first explain how a terrorist Indian spy Kulbushan was operating from Chahbahar. Are India and Iran in cahoots as can be depicted from this news item.

Usman Ghani May 09, 2017 04:38pm

@maverik Pakistan should forcefully inquire from Iran about the anti-Pakistan activities Kulbushan was carrying out from Chahbahar.

asad May 09, 2017 04:48pm

Iran should think 100 times for any inapt action as Pakistan is not Syria or Lebanon.

Vikram May 09, 2017 04:50pm

The first step towards solving a problem is to find the root cause. I see a lot of people blaming it on the absence of foreign minister. I wonder if any foreign minister could appease Iran, despite continuing with the safe heavens for people who are harming it.

Vikram May 09, 2017 05:01pm

@Qom Now that is a perfectly strong reason to not clean your own hands....kudos !!

pakistani May 09, 2017 05:11pm

Iran has to be reminded that they are not USA and we are not Afghanistan. Let them come and see what happens...........

asad May 09, 2017 05:31pm

There are iranian agents like indian agents in Pakistan speaking and working for those countries who threats Pakistan.

asad May 09, 2017 05:38pm

@Asad Pakistan is befriend with everyone but not the one who spread terrorism and kill innocent Pakistanis and muslims in Syria by chemical bombing.

ghaznavi May 09, 2017 05:43pm

We were better off with Shah of Iran. The Mullahs of Iran are immersed in sectarian hatred.

Jason May 09, 2017 07:01pm

@haider well said brother. Pakistan will never tolerate this.

Krishna May 09, 2017 08:07pm

@Mushtaq ...This comment must have got the most 'likes'.....Hats off to Mushtaq !!

Starr May 09, 2017 11:47pm

@Kr Definitely!

Baljeet May 10, 2017 12:36am

@Asif Kashmiri well they caught one called Kubushan jadev.

Omar May 10, 2017 12:45am

bring it on. Makes more sense for Pakistan to join the Saudi led coalition against Iran.

Badar May 10, 2017 01:31am

Friendship is based on economic interests, even Arabs r rallying behind India. Why Iran shud restrain itself.

sajed syed May 10, 2017 06:27am

@Aftab , and how will they do that?

Akbar Sethi May 10, 2017 07:02am

What! Now we are fighting Iran. If Iran, Afghanistan and India get together they can split us up into 12 countries. What's the point of all this Nawaz!

EMP May 10, 2017 07:24am

The implications of such a naive thought are beyond imagination. Have you heard the Urdu proverb which poorly translates to "come bull, hit me"

Punkaj May 10, 2017 07:28am Iranian leaders always fires in the air. These Iranian fanatics need very deep psychotherapy...

This is the direct result of Poor and non-existent Pakistani foreign policy, incompetent leadership ....

Z May 10, 2017 08:25am

@Akber Do you even read news of how many drone attacks happen here every month?

samreen May 10, 2017 09:46am

Now , being a Pakistani i am extremely annoyed for not having a foreign minister of Pakistan. Shame on PML-N!

de Bannu khan May 10, 2017 10:22am

@Jamil Soomro, NEW YORK CITY Nothing like that! I live abroad like you!! Only keeping myself updated! Cheers

sheraz ahmed khan May 10, 2017 10:31am

@thuglife -- Brother are not like that

Mark May 10, 2017 11:36am

well said General. He minces no words. I hope the warning is stern and clear to the recipients.

Sam george May 10, 2017 12:09pm

What does Iran Want now? Are we people safe here. We are surrounded. US, Iran, Afghans, Indians. Oh My God please have mercy on us

BAXAR May 10, 2017 01:31pm

@Mark "well said General. He minces no words. I hope the warning is stern and clear to the recipients." The recipient is already shaking with fear :-))

Bupi May 10, 2017 02:11pm

It will be good for Pakistan if leadership acts or it will be to late as one can't afford to have bad relationship with all hamsayas.

Bupi May 10, 2017 02:17pm

@Pakistani When you join Armey from Middle East Iran has to react.

RAVEENDRA NATH May 10, 2017 02:43pm

@Mushtaq - A sane voice, so rare in Pakistan. You are not only a true patriot, but a secular and compassionate human being. Hope, light of knowledge and good sense will dawn on many more Pakistani citizens.

Khan May 10, 2017 07:41pm

It is due to the fact that Gen Raheel is commanding army of muslim countries and Iran does not want KSA strong.

RKM May 11, 2017 07:12am

So many sane voices in these columns. Does anybody listen?

Vasim May 11, 2017 09:42am

@Aziz India can never do that to Pakistan. I disagree. Not a chance. Coz china has already done that.

khanm May 11, 2017 06:10pm

interesting comments. It seems like we have an open door policy come and hit us whenever and where ever you want.... our doors are wide open. they seem to have lost the respect of our sovereignty.... you know why? cos we SHOULD HAVE TOLD USA THAT THEY WILL NOT VIOLATE OUR TERRORITY PERIOD... Make improvements, not excuses. Seek respect, not attention/attraction .. by the way, that was a fatal attraction and never dying love affair between USA and Pakistan...
