Story Time: Trolls

Let’s celebrate happiness with Trolls, DreamWorks Animations’ latest animated flick. Unlike other 3Danimations, Trolls has a wide range of celebrities voicing for the characters including Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand and Zooey Deschanel. There are original songs as well that will force you to dance even if you don’t want to.

The story revolves around the lives of small creatures called Trolls, who stay happy by hugging each other after an hour, live in obscurity and fear nothing except human sized Bergens. A disgruntled Bergen chef with a history with Trolls captures a few of them to appease her king, who has never been happy because Bergens only get happy when they taste a Troll!

Poppy (Anna Kendrick) convinces Branch (Justin Timberlake) to rescue her friends before they get eaten and in the process, they manage to make new friends. Not only do they help the Bergen king fall in love, they make the Bergens realise that happiness doesn’t come from eating Trolls. And yes, their efforts also result in the ouster of the Bergen chef who was in reality the one to convince Bergens of eating Trolls.

The best thing about this animated feature is the brilliant characterisation of Trolls, and Bergens. Every one of us has friends like that in real life; there is a Troll who is always ready for party, one Troll is always prepared for the worst, another one is taller than the rest, there is one who sends positive vibes and another who is fashionably different from the rest. How they manage to escape from the clutches of evil Bergen chef is something to look forward.

Add the song and dance routine and you get an outing that you will never forget. There is a message in the flick and that’s to stay happy any way which you can. You might not be as tiny as a Troll but happiness doesn’t come from height, it comes from within!

The movie is rated PG for some mild and rude humour.
