KARACHI: An angry mob lynched a suspected robber after he shot dead a man when he put up resistance to an attempt to rob him in New Karachi early on Sunday morning, Bilal Colony police said.

They added that two suspected robbers intercepted a motorcyclist identified as Javed Siddique near Dua Chowk in Sector 5-D, New Karachi, and tried to rob him. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

The incident enraged area residents, who caught hold of one of the suspects and subjected him to severe beating.

Police said that they rescued the seriously wounded suspect from the angry crowd and shifted him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he died from the wounds.

Police said the victim, Javed, was on his way to attend a marriage ceremony of a friend in the area when he was gunned down by the robbers. The victim’s maternal uncle took away the body for burial saying the family would lodge an FIR later.

A police official at the Bilal Colony police station said that so far no case had been registered against the mob for lynching the suspected robber.

Robbers kill passer-by during robbery

Suspected robbers shot dead a passer-by on Sunday evening while fleeing from a crowed who had gathered after a robbery incident in Orangi Town, the Mominabad police said.

Three suspects riding a motorcycle stormed a shop and looted Rs15,000 from the shopkeeper. The incident attracted attention of nearby people. On seeing the crowed, robbers became jittery and opened fire on them in a bid to flee in which a passer-by was killed, said West SSP Pir Mohammed Shah.
