KOHAT: The business community here rejected the prices of food items announced by the price review committee in its meeting, which was chaired by deputy commissioner Zahir Shah Momand on Friday.

They said that rates of food items fixed by the committee were unreasonable keeping in view of hike in income tax and revised prices of imported stuff.

According to a handout, the deputy commissioner asked the traders representatives to ensure implementation of the new prices being issued before Ramazanul Mubarik.

The new official price list shows that mutton will be sold at Rs650 per kilogramme, best quality tea at Rs540 per kg, Silla rice Rs90 per kg, basmati rice Rs100 per kg, milk Rs80 per kg and yogurt Rs85 per kg. He also advised the people to buy meat of animals slaughtered at a government facility and stamped by a veterinary doctor.

He asked the traders to display the price list at a prominent place of their shops.

Currently, the best quality tea was being sold at Rs800 per kg, milk Rs120 per kg, yogurt Rs120 per kg and rice at Rs150 per kg.

The traders argued that the prices were not reasonable and they could not provide any relief to the consumers because of hike in income tax and revised prices of imported stuff.

The meeting was attended by former MNA Javed Ibrahim, Manzoor Ahmed, Mohammad Abid and presidents of other unions.

The traders demanded of the deputy commissioner to allow them to establish Sasta bazaar during Ramazan at the open place of old jail ground.

HARASSMENT CASE: Police here on Friday registered cases against officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa anti-corruption department for forgery and harassment of a contractor.

The Kohat city police station officials said that a government contractor of communication and works department, Alam Zeb, had complained that officials of establishment wing of anti-corruption department, Kohat region, had prepared wrong record during inspection of construction of roads in Shahpur and upgradation of a government middle school, Sher Kot.

The contractor took the plea that this has resulted in huge monetary losses to him and also harmed his reputation, spokesman for the district police officer said in a statement.

The police conducted inquiry into the matter and registered cases against the assistant technical officer, assistant director crimes, circle officer and other officials. The case has been referred to the KP home department for further action.
