HYDERABAD, July 12: The district administration of Hyderabad decided on Wednesday to strictly enforce official price lists of food items to be issued from Thursday onwards during Ramazan in a bid to keep prices in check.

A meeting of the administration officials decided to impose fine on violators of the official list and said the performance of complaint centres to be set up in eight main bazaars of the city would be made more effective.

The meeting was chaired by additional Deputy Commissioner-I Ejazul Hassan and attended by officials of the bureau of supplies and prices, revenue officials and fruit commission agents.

Ejazul Hassan said the meeting had decided that green vegetables’ auction would be held between 1pm to 3pm but its price list would be issued next day along with rates of fruits in the morning.

The commission agents blamed vendors and retailers for fleecing consumers and said the fruits prices at their end were not that high. They urged shifting of vegetable market from its congested location to the new building near Lined Channel which had required space for smooth auctioning of commodities so that auctions could be held in a smooth manner.

Mr Hassan agreed to the shifting and said the deputy commissioner would soon hold a meeting in this regard. At present, he said, the new location for the market faced a host of issues, including litigation among commission agents with multiple allotments, internally displaced persons living there, non-provision of electricity and absence of boundary walls.

The administration would set up eight complaint centres and hold ‘bachat bazaar’ at Nasim Nagar chowk, Unit-7 of Latifabad, Liaquat Colony ground and Tandojam’s municipal town to facilitate people.
