MINGORA, April 29: More security posts have been set up on Pak-Afghan border to stop infiltration of militants from Afghanistan into Swat valley, said Swat operation in-charge Maj-Gen Ghulam Qamar while speaking at a function arranged for the outgoing students of Mashal centre here the other day.

He said that the law-enforcement agencies had secured full control of the Swat valley and militants’ infiltration had now been made impossible.

About 139 more former militants were sent to their homes after completion of their rehabilitation at the training centre. The number of such people who had been rehabilitated now stood at 1,040. These people were also imparted skills development training at the centre to make them useful citizens and enable them to easily earn their livelihood. About 901 militants have already completed their training at the centre and are living a peaceful life in their respective towns now.

DRAL DAM ISSUE: The elders of Bahrain have announced to mark April 30 as black day on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of Dral dam, saying that Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti would be welcomed with black flags and shutdown. They termed the construction of the dam economic murder of people of Dral area.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Swat press club, the elders said that they had not been taken into confidence on the project. The elders included former provincial minister Malik Deedar, Malik Khurshid, Zubair Turdali, Abdul Jalil and others.

The feasibility report of the proposed dam was completed in 1998 and the government had started work on the project in 2005 with the financial support of Asian Development Bank.

However, the ADB stopped support when elders of the area opposed the project. The present government has allocated funds for the dam project in 2009.

The elders claimed that with construction of the dam their fertile lands and tourism would be destroyed and they would be pushed to face economic starvation. They called for shifting the dam project to some other site.
