CM accused of favouring candidate

ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan, has alleged that the Punjab chief minister was using government funds to influence the coming by-elections in Mianwali.

In his letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (retired), the PTI chief termed the failure of the CEC to enforce electoral rules as tragic.

Imran Khan is supervising the election campaign of his party nominee Hafeezullah Khan Niazi, a joint opposition candidate contesting against the King’s party candidate in PP-44 Mianwali.

The PTI chief also deplored that the CEC was not initiating action, despite irrefutable evidence against Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervez Ellahi that conclusively disqualified them from not only contesting elections for violation of the declaration of oath but also from holding any public office.

He stated that the massive pre-poll rigging, result manipulation on the polling day and subsequent horse-trading have led to the imposition of the most inept leadership on the people, thus increasing despondency and despair in the society.—Staff Reporter
