KARAK: The residents of Karak city have demanded of the authorities to make a water filtration plant in the urban locality operational.

Talking to reporters on Sunday, they said the filtration plant was constructed several years ago but it was not made functional owing to unknown reasons.

They said the deputy commissioner had released funds on public demand to refurbish the filtration plant, but even then it could not be made operational. Saying that they were forced to purchase water, the residents demanded of the public health engineering department to make the filtration plant functional without delay.

FACILITIES DEMANDED: A local committee of 16 villages of Nashpa block, the oil and gas exploration area in Karak, has demanded provision of basic amenities to the region.

The committee held a meeting on Sunday and demanded launch of tree plantation drive in the area to neutralise the dangerous effects of exploration activities.
