KARAK: Adviser to the chief minister on prisons Malik Qasim Khan Khattak has approved three water supply schemes and blacktopping of road in Sorati Kalay area here.

He announced the projects while addressing party workers in his hometown here on Saturday. The lawmaker said water supply schemes would be completed at a cost of Rs10.2 million, adding the road would cost Rs5 million to connect the people with the district headquarters Karak.

Mr Khattak said he had also initiated work on a water supply scheme from Lawagher dam at a cost of Rs380 million to help end water woes in majority areas of his constituency.

The lawmaker said second phase of the Karak-Darratang road would be complete in the stipulated time with Rs250 million.

The lawmaker said several welfare projects had been launched in his constituency with the oil and gas royalty funds.

He expressed hope that the mega project of oil refinery would be established in the district on the basis of merit as the district was producing 75 per cent of oil and gas in the Kohat division.

GAMBLERS ARRESTED: Karak police claimed to have arrested 11 gamblers and seized cash and gambling instruments in Mianki area. They also claimed recovering three kilogramme of hashish from drug peddlers.

A press release issued on Saturday, said SHO Takht-i-Nusrati Iqbal Khan Mohmand raided a house in Deen Payo Jan and arrested 11 gamblers, and recovered Rs56,340 stake money, a pistol, 25 cartridges and gambling instruments. Police registered cases against them.

In another raid, police recovered 3,025 gram hashish, three rifles, three pistols and dozens of cartridges, and also arrested 12 suspected persons, including four proclaimed offenders.

Meanwhile, district police officer Mian Naseeb Jan, while addressing members of Dispute Resolution Committee on Saturday, appreciated their efforts in resolving disputes. He said land and women related disputes could easily be resolved according to local culture and traditions.

The DPO claimed that senior and educated people had been appointed to the DRC to resolve the people’s problems in best manner. He said the committee had helped reduce burden on police and courts.
