KARACHI: Rangers officials on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the primary suspect involved in the murder of slain Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Zohra Shahid Hussain.

Acting on a tip-off, Rangers personnel conducted a targeted operation in the surrounding areas of Teen Talwar in Clifton and arrested suspect, Kaleem, who was wanted in several cases of murder, said a spokesperson from the paramilitary force.

The Rangers spokesman said that weapons were also seized from the suspect's possession.

The suspect, who has been shifted to an undisclosed location, is being interrogated further.

Last year in September, police had arrested a man suspected of involvement in the murder of Zohra Shahid.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan had accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain for Zohra's killing as Altaf had openly threatened PTI activists and leaders through public broadcasts. Imran had also held the British government responsible for the ‘murder’ of Zohra Shahid saying he had warned them about British citizen (Hussain) after his open threats to PTI workers’ lives.

Rangers personnel have stepped up operations in Karachi. Last week, paramilitary force personnel raided MQM headquarters in Karachi's Azizabad neighbourhood during which a number of arrests were made. Furthermore, arms and ammunition were also recovered during the crackdown.
