ABBOTTABAD: A plan is being prepared for widening of the main Karakoram Highway in Abbottabad city with the capacity of three-lane road and making underpasses at important points to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Deputy Commissioner, Abbottabad, Matiullah Khan said this while talking to reporters at his office here on Wednesday.

The DC said that anti-encroachment campaign, which was started two months ago, had now been extended to Havelian and Murree road, while a committee comprising officials of Sui gas, Pesco, PTCL, NHA, TMA and cantonment board had made a plan to shift the water supply lines, electric poles, gas installations and other utility services lines to make footpaths for pedestrians.

He made it clear that extension of road was being done fairly at different points according to the already approved old city plan. However, new constructions alongside the main KKH should follow the NHA rules.

The DC said that a comprehensive traffic plan was being prepared and initially some ‘U’ turns had been removed for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.

He pointed out that the district administration would soon start issuing computerised domicile certificates, while a proposal would be forwarded to the provincial government for creation of water board to manage water issues in Abbottabad city.

He said that sanitation system in the city would be improved and for this purpose the TMA was being activated. He said that a food street would be established in the city at an appropriate location.

LG POLLS: Baba Haider Zaman, Chief of Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara has formed a parliamentary board for the forthcoming local government (LG) elections. He said that different committees had been formed to observe ‘Youme Shuhada’ of Hazara movement workers on April 12.
