PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Nasir Khan Durrani on Wednesday suspended Haripur city SHO and his two gunmen for torturing a handicapped auto electrician, and ordered departmental enquiry against the policemen.

According to a police spokesman, Mohammad Sabir was brutally tortured by the then SHO Haripur city Mohammad Bashir and his two gunmen, Arshad and Mushtaq, for personal motives on June 19, 2013, injuring him seriously.

The IGP recently received a complaint in this regard on which present DPO Haripur was directed to conduct preliminary enquiry. In his report, the DPO Haripur, instead of fixing responsibility and recommending strict action against the delinquent officials, tried to protect them by distorting the facts. However, the IGP took strong notice of this and suspended the officials. Mr Durrani also ordered transfer of DPO Haripur as OSD. — Bureau Report
