DIES FROM INJURIES: A girl who was set on fire allegedly by four members of a family died in the Mayo Hospital on Monday.

Police had registered a case on Sunday against four members of the family on the girl’s statement.

Farzana, 20, a resident of Gulberg, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night. She had over 70 per cent burns.

In her statement, she told the police that she had eloped with her lover Ilyas, alias Kala, of Saadi Park, Mozang, four months ago. She said he kept her in a Saadi Park house where three women also lived. He introduced one of the women as his mother and the other two as sisters. She said initially she stayed there patiently. Ilyas started using delaying tactics on her demand for marriage. Later, she said she learnt that he wanted to force her into prostitution. On her refusal, the four family members locked her in a room and started torturing. Later, they poured kerosene on her and set her afire. They left her at the hospital.

The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. No arrest has so far been made.
