HYDERABAD, April 15: Noted intellectual Dr N. A. Baloch has exhorted the university students to play their vital role for the promotion of education for this was the best way to pay homage to the founder of the Sindh University, Allama I. I. Kazi.

He was presiding over a speech competition on the theme of “Great scholar Allama I. I. Kazi, his life and works”, organized by the department of physiology in connection with the Founder’s Week celebrations on the 6th day on Tuesday.

The speech competition was participated by students from all the departments of the University.

Dr Baloch said that Allama I. I. Kazi had never asked the students and the employees to attend their offices or classes regularly but no one reported late.

He said that during his vice chancellorship, Allama Sahib used to live in Saddar, Hyderabad, but he never used university vehicle.

He said that Mr Kazi never claimed any TA/DA, and he was always asking everyone to contribute for the development of education and the University.

He said that at times the recurring grant of the university was only Rs100,000 and it was during those days that the two buildings at the new campus for physics and chemistry were constructed.

He said that for construction of the new campus at Jamshoro, Allama Sahib himself visited the site.

Dr Baloch appreciated the speeches delivered by the students on the life of Allama I. I. Kazi and hoped that they would try to follow in his footsteps.

The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, in his inaugural speech said that Allama I. I. Kazi’s attachment to Sindh and Pakistan and the students was legendary.

He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that the students and scholars were responding to the message of Mr Kazi in a positive manner.

Dr Ghulam Mustafa Seehar, chairman, department of physiology, and dean, faculty of natural sciences, Dr Munir Ahmed Qureshi, also expressed their views on the occasion.

DEBATE COMPETITION: In connection with the Sindh University Founder’s Week celebrations, the department of Muslim History, organized a debate competition on Monday.
