LARKANA, March 9: Speakers at a seminar, held here on Saturday to mark the International Women’s Day, stressed the need for legislation against killings on the pretext of Karo-kari.

Noor Naz Agha of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Detho, secretary-general, Amnesty International, Pakistan, and other speakers criticized the government for not taking serious notice of the matter.

They said killings on the pretext of Karo-kari had become a tool to settle disputes.

They said women should also raise their voice for the rights of the province and against construction of the Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam.

The speakers said women should be given equal representation in all the sectors.

MPA Sassuee Palijo, presided over the seminar that was arranged by different NGOs.

MAN KILLED: Three motorcyclists killed Mohammad Siddiq Khichi at the new bus terminal here on Saturday.

The Waleed police have registered an FIR.

kidnapped: Two unidentified persons late Saturday night kidnapped Khadim Hussain Dayo from the Chachar village, which is located in the jurisdiction of the Chak police station, Shikarpur district.

The kidnapped man is a computer operator in the MCB, Sukkur.

ARREST DEMANDED: The automobile workers’ association on Sunday took out a procession to protest over the murder of one of their colleague, Mohammed Siddik Khichi.

Mr Khichi was shot dead on Saturday by two unidentified armed motorcyclists while he was working in his auto shop, located at the city’s main bus terminal.

Protestors, carrying banners and placards, shut down their businesses and assembled outside the Jinnahbagh.

Labour leaders, on the occasion, called for the early arrest of the killers of their colleague and demanded providing security to the workers. They also staged demonstrations outside the local press club and the district council hall to press for their demands.

TEACHERS PROTEST: The Government Secondary Teachers Association on Sunday observed a hunger strike outside the local press club to protest over the police’s failure to arrest the killers of one of their colleagues, Abdul Qadir Jokhiyo.
