ISLAMABAD, April 17: As many as 25 girl students of Jamia Hafsa on Wednesday tore banners and posters of Dr Amjad, a candidate for NA-48, at Jinnah Avenue. The poster also carried pictures of former president Pervez Musharraf.

Traffic on the road remained stranded as students were carrying knives in and were cutting banners and posters.

Although some police officials were present there, they did not interfere because of the sensitivity of the issue.

However, they informed district administration and police, an official of police told Dawn.

Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Ali and Assistant Superintendent of Police Rizwan Gondal reached there and started negotiations with the protesters.

Umme Hassan and students said that if workers of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) continued displaying posters in front of Lal Masjid, the students would be left with no choice but to remove them from all over the city.

“Musharraf is murderer of the students of Jamia Hafsa. Students will not tolerate his pictures in front of Lal Masjid,” she said.

“There are so many families in federal capital whose loved ones were killed during operation. They do not want to see Musharraf’s face and even his picture,” she said.

After negotiations of half an hour and assuring them that banners will not be displayed in front of Lal Masjid, protesters returned.
