ECP releases assets details of parties, former parliamentarians

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday released details of assets declared by former parliamentarians, with former National Assembly member Noor Alam Khan being the richest lawmaker having declared assets worth Rs.320 million.

Jamshed Dasti takes the last place, having the least amount of assets, with only his salaried bank account.

According to the details issued by the ECP, former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf owns assets amounting to Rs.72 million. He owns two cars worth Rs.1.8 million. He will be receiving an additional Rs.8 million which he had loaned to his brother.

Former Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif owns a car worth Rs.20 million gifted by a friend along with assets amounting to Rs.14 million.

Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has Rs.8.3 million cash in his bank account. He owns a house in Rawalpindi and nine other apartments.

Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan has Rs.10 million worth of assets and 50 tolas of gold.

Arbab Alamgir has assets of Rs.200 million and an apartment in Dubai, worth Rs.40 million.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has declared Rs.5.5 million worth of assets.

Chaudhary Pervez Elahi has Rs.64.1 cash in his bank account, Rs.8.9 worth of property and Rs.34.9 worth of investments.

PPP leader and Speaker National Assembly, Fehmida Mirza, has assets comprising of Rs.80 million and an apartment in Dubai worth Rs.15 million.

The election commission released audited assets details of the political parties. According to the details, the PML-N emerges as Pakistan’s richest party with declared assets worth more than Rs.80 million.

The PML-Quaid is the second richest with assets comprising of Rs.51.44 million, while the ANP takes the third position with declared assets worth Rs.20.73 million.

The net worth of the Pakistan People’s Party, the leading party in the outgoing National Assembly, was declared at Rs.4,35,000.

According to the ECP, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has assets worth Rs.9.46 whereas the net worth of the JI is Rs.1.85 million.

Sheikh Rashid’s Awami Muslim League declared assets worth Rs.70000.

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has declared assets comprising of Rs. 1.375 million.

In a country where everybody is involved in cheating, how can you expect the parliamentarians to declare their true assets. You buy/ sell a property for 2 crores and declare it for less than 20 lacs. And this practice is followed by everybody, including those who call themselves the custodians of fair practices.

Does Pervez Ilahi has really only 64 Rs in bank? Are they missing the "million" ? Is it a typo? Really shows how much these politicians are making and have in their pockets. How a person who has such a lavish lifestyle and have millions in asset would understand a struggling common man trying to meet their ends? Seriously? I remember Liaquat A. Khan and Jinnah had salaried 1 Rs and they left all their properties in India to make sure that the whole Nation starts from scratch!

These amounts are sad. These individuals have had a long time to move around the assets. The questions then become: 1) Where did all the billions of rupees of discretionary funds go. Each paisa must be accounted for 2) Review and take snap shots of their immediate and extended family records and compare change in the last 5 years as well as constant reviews going forward 3) Get blanket authorizations from these office holders to check with banks in other countries if these individuals hold accounts there and if so, then gather balance history for the past 5 years. One shouldn't have anything to hide if there is nothing to hide. That is the fundamental responsibility of a public servant.

ECP I wonder how easily can you trust these figures, Kindly dont make me lose hope in you. These people each one of them atleast atleast must have assets of around billion rs. Take an example of Mr pervaiz Elahi even the houses he lives in , in front of FCC college must have value of atleast 80 -90 million each house. We the educated ones are not that jahil , and you at ECP the most educated ones should know better. Have pitty on this nation

Shabaz Sharif has property worth 14 million only wow are`nt our leaders so poor that they only want to serve the country and its people what a shame and come election day we will either sit and party at home watch a movie play cricket or have a brunch or some of us would actually go and vote for these poor leaders my God i am out of here !!!!

ECP should publish in print media, details of out standing utility bills with bill periods, loans obtained from government banks and institutions and default in paying back in time, details of Tax returns and tax paid, agriculture land and property owned and agriculture tax paid.

I have seen houses owned by Shahbaz Sharif, one in model town and one in defence. If he claims these 2 homes, considering he has no other asset, to worth 14 million then I am willing to pay 28 million to buy both, which I know worth more than 70 million!!!

What a joke! These are just declared assets. In Pakistan you can put any amount you want. The reality is that they have millions of Dollars all over the world in their own name and in others names. They loot the country blind and not only don't pay taxes but they loot and put their money and assets out of the county.

Mr. Cheif Justice please accept my (a citizen of Pakistan's) petition to challenge the declared assets of every contesting person who has declared any asset to ECB. Ban any false declarers for next 10 years from contesting any election. Bring eye witnesses, Journalists, Ordinary citizens and take their declaration.

What do these politicians think? We Pakistanis were born yesterday? The forthcoming elections is a good opportunity to vote these corrupt politicians out. Each individual should contemplate before casting his or her vote, because the vote is the legitimate power in our hands and we can make a beginning for a better Pakistan by only electing those candidates who will work for the common good and progress of Pakistan. We do not have to look much further back then 2004 when in the US presidential elections Bush/Cheney were re-elected in-spite of their abysmal record. Let us not make the mistake the American voters made. Let us vote for new and young leaders who we think can lead for a better Pakistan. Let us vote the present bunch out regardless of the parties they belong to.

Ishaque Dar, Zardari have homes in Emirates hIlls Dubai, where no house is valued at less than ten million dollars. This area is called billionaires row. Owning these properties is not a problem as long as the source of income is declared. Most of the people who live here are either businessmen or disgraced political leaders who have looted their countries.

It is no point publishing these figures when there is no honest process of verifying these declarations and any repercussions for false declarations.I see that some of these assets are gifted, what a joke, I thought gifted meant bribes but obviously in Pakistan it means something else.

This is a start of ensuring transparency, however it must be followed by verification by someone like the NAB. Those convicted of deliberately lying about their assets should receive a minimum 10 years in jail, and have all assets seized. When you have appropriate fear of law, you will get better people stand for election. The usual corrupt feudals will be less keen to put themselves at risk.
