TAXILA, Jan 9: Some armed men manhandled a doctor and other paramedical staff of tehsil headquarters hospital (THQ) Taxila on Tuesday evening.

Sources said the doctor was performing autopsy on an Afghan national’s body, who was murdered by some persons, when father of the deceased broke open the door of autopsy room along with dozen other supporters and started beating the doctor and other staff.

They were alleging that the doctor and other staff were removing the kidney of the deceased.

The Afghan national was shot dead on Tuesday by some persons, who later threw his body in drainage line.

The father of the deceased subjected the doctor and other staff members to severe torture.

Later they bundled the doctor in a vehicle and tried to kidnap him but their attempt was foiled by the security staff, who closed the gates of the hospital.

The attackers also ransacked furniture and surgery tools.

When the policemen, who brought the body of the Afghan national to the hospital, saw the situation getting out of control, they slipped from the scene.

On the arrival of Taxila police, the attackers managed to escape. The Taxila Police, however, registered a case against the relatives of the deceased and launched hunt for their arrest.

As the accused were not arrested till Wednesday, the doctors and paramedical staff observed token strike and suspended services at OPD and took out a protest rally.—Correspondent
