PESHAWAR: A protest against US drone strikes is scheduled to be held in Wana, the main city in the South Waziristan tribal region, on Saturday.

The protest is expected to be attended by a large number of people and would be led out by the Ahmedzai Wazir tribesmen in Wana bazaar, local sources told Dawn.com.

All commercial centres in Wana, including the Wana, Azam Warsak, Birmal, Angoor Adda and Rustam bazaars were closed.

Attacks by unmanned US aircraft or drones remain contentious and are deeply unpopular in Pakistan.

Pakistan says the attacks violate its sovereignty and fan anti-US sentiment, but American officials are said to believe they are too important to give up.
