NOWSHERA/KOHAT, Nov 24: Unidentified militants blew up two girls schools in Nowshera and Kohat on Saturday.

Police said that militants blew up a primary school at Mughlki area of Akora Khattak in Nowshera on Saturday evening.

They said that substantial damage had been done to the building after the hand-made bomb exploded. The school building was reconstructed with the help of Japan after 2010 floods.

The bomb disposal squad said that four kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.

In Kohat, police said militants planted five kilograms of improvised explosive device to the building of the government primary school for girls in Teerawal Banda locality of Kamal Khel area in the wee hours on Saturday.

The police said explosive device exploded with a big bang, destroying the building completely. No one was hurt in the blast.

The police and bomb disposal squad reached the area soon after the incident and launched a search operation. The Bilitang police station registered the case against unidentified miscreants.

IMAMBARGAH ATTACKED: Unidentified terrorists resorted to firing at the heavily guarded imambargah situated in the Kohat city from a populated area in the wee hours of Saturday.

The terrorists fired shots with pistols at the Syed Habib Shah Imambargah from Mohallah Sikandar Khan Shaheed. Nobody was present outside the imambargah at the time of the attack.

The police and the inmates of the imambargah retaliated to the attack and fired shots in the direction of the attackers. The firing continued for two hours with intervals.

The police said the attackers escaped towards the bazaar taking advantage of darkness. The police said the terrorists fired at the imambargah from a close distance. The city police registered the case.

Meanwhile, the administration on Saturday closed the Kohat-Parachinar highway till further orders in view of security threats to Ashura processions.

A police spokesman said that the road had been closed for traffic from Kohat up to Parachinar, headquarters of Kurram Agency, in view of the security threats. He said that decision had been made after intelligence reports suggested that a suicide bomber might try to attack Ashura processions on the 10th of Muharram.

The police requested the public to inform the Rescue 15 police if they saw any suspicious vehicle or thing in the area.

Meanwhile, mobile telephone service was suspended in Kohat, Hangu and Parachinar on Saturday morning while foolproof security had been made at the strategic Kohat Tunnel. People have already stopped using the tunnel due to strict and long process of checking.
