KARACHI: A factory in Karachi's Shershah area caught fire on Friday injuring two people, including a firefighter, DawnNews reported.

A tissue paper and diaper manufacturing factory caught fire in Karachi's Shershah area within the remit of the Site police station. The fire erupted as a result of sparks from a welding machine which was being used during construction work being carried out at the factory premises.

Six fire tenders, dispatched to the site of incident, were busy putting out the fire. Two persons, including a firefighter, were injured during the efforts to extinguish the fire.

All people in the factory were safely evacuated.

Goods worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes whereas the main warehouse, where the tissue paper and diaper stock were stored, was saved from the fire.

The issue of occupational hazards at factories has especially  become a cause for concern after the recent tragic blaze at a factory in Karachi's Baldia town that had killed at least 258 people last month.
