PESHAWAR, Sept 14: Girl students have secured all top three positions in University of Peshawar BSc and BA annual examinations, according to the results announced on Friday.

In BSc examination, Sidra Saeed Qazi of Jinnah College for Women stood first with 493 marks followed by Zaiba Said and Hira Iqbal Siddiqui of the same college with 490 marks and 483 marks respectively.

In BA examination, Maryam Ali of Army Burn Hall College, Abbottabad secured first position by obtaining 431 marks.

Sidra Shaheen (429 marks) and Zonaira Akbar (422 marks) of the same college got second and third positions respectively.

Controller Examination Professor Rasheed Khan told reporters that a total of 45,522 candidates appeared in BA and BSc examinations and of them, 15,643 were declared successful.

“The overall passing percentage remained 34.36 per cent,” he said.

The controller said the number of students appeared in BA and BSc Part-I were around 26,000 and 7,589 of them had been declared successful. The passing percentage was 29.49 per cent, he added.

Professor Rasheed said 19,784 students appeared in the Part-II examination and 8,054 of them remained successful and therefore, the passing percentage was 40 per cent.

Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Professor Qibla Ayaz gave away certificates and prizes to successful students.

He announced free master’s degree education at his university for all top three position holders of BA and BSc examinations.

Dr Ayaz said female students had taken all three positions in both the categories revealed that people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were encouraging female education.

“Our daughters are second to none in the world as for talent and hard work,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by parents of the high achievers, registrar Dr Fazli Hadi, deputy controller Yorid Ahsan Zia, director (admissions) Professor Hizbullah Khan and others.
