KARACHI, July 23: An anti-terrorism court issued on Monday life warrants for the arrest of head of the banned People Aman Committee and 21 other alleged gangsters in a policeman’s murder case.

The investigation officer had charge-sheeted the head of the proscribed PAC, Uzair Jan Baloch, as well as suspected Lyari gangsters Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla, Zafar Baloch, Zahid Ladla, Umar Kachchi, Asif Niazi, Ismail Niazi, Taj Mohammad alias Taju and 14 others under Section 512 (record evidence in absence of accused) of the criminal procedure code in the murder case of Police Constable Tufail Ahmed.

The court had repeatedly issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the suspects. However, the police in its final report claimed that they had gone underground and remained untraceable.

The ATC-III issued life warrants for all the suspects and put off the hearing till Aug 9.

According to the prosecution, the suspects had allegedly attacked a police team during an operation in Lyari in April-May this year, in which the police constable was killed and other policemen were injured.

A case (FIR 72/12) was registered against the suspects under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Kalakot police station.
