LAHORE, July 18: An alleged robber was killed in a shootout with the police in Sabzazar area on Tuesday midnight.

Sabzazar police claimed two robbers snatched a motorcycle from Shaban Riaz of Shezan Factory Bund Road in Nawab Town police limits at midnight and fled. A message was radioed at police control after the victim alerted emergency police.

The suspects were passing through Liaquat Chowk of Sabzazar when a police team present at a picket signalled them to stop for checking.

The suspects opened fire on the police. During a 10-minute crossfire, a suspect was killed and the other managed his escape.

Police seized the snatched motorcycle, a wallet and a weapon from the spot and shifted the body for autopsy. They said the suspect was not yet named.

Police said an application had been dispatched to the district and sessions judge for judicial inquiry of the incident.

ACCIDENTS: Two people were killed and another injured in two road accidents in the city on Wednesday.

Shahdara police said 17-year-old Asad Ali and his mother were riding a bike when a speeding truck struck them near Aziz Colony. The injured were taken to Mayo Hospital where Asad of Aziz Colony succumbed to his wounds.

The suspected driver escaped on foot after leaving the vehicle.

Bhatti Gate police said a woman in her 70s was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle when she was crossing road.

The driver managed to escape.
