The emerging film scene seems to have everyone talking, with filmmakers from three major cities of the country heavily investing and working towards the revival of the long lost Pakistani cinema.

Where on one hand we hear about new names making their way in the entertainment industry and producing admirable work, we now also have our veteran actor Humayun Saeed’s upcoming film project to look forward to.

“Main hun Shahid Afridi" is produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Naseeb, written by Vasay Chaudhry and directed by Syed Ali Raza. Dawn.com met with Humayun Saeed to gain some insight on what Saeed calls 'Pakistan’s first sports film'.

humayun saeed sahib u should make a movie about our country ... highlight the issues like politics, corruption and one advice is that u should make a movie upon our president..... wish u best of luck for the movie on shahid afridi
Capt Mansur Jul 03, 2012 05:31pm
Thanks Mr Siddiqi. It takes a lot of courage to call a Spade a Spade.
Capt Mansur Jul 03, 2012 05:30pm
Because of Afridi pakistan has lost more matches than have one. Kindly look at stats. A cricketer who chews a ball on field with 28 cameras watching??? Who will do this Afridi!!!. The movie is really a waste of time and money.
Shah Jul 02, 2012 12:32pm
"Mein hun Shahid Afridi"..Is this name of the movie??? Please change the name. Shahid Afridi is a good player but films names should not be associated with players. This is totaly biased act. Please "Main hun Shahid Afridi", replace "Shahid Afridi" with some proper name and that should be good name.
SMAJ Jul 03, 2012 11:19am
Pir Baba, you are 10% correct.
Khizr Jul 02, 2012 02:34pm
He is controversial? really? Look at his stats and see for yourself. Kaptan saheb, please learn to admire cricketers from other provinces too.
siddiqi Jul 03, 2012 04:05am
Afridi has been an unstable character and not a hero figure for everyone so yes a lot of people will not bother to watch the movie. It was better to just make a movie without an actual name.
Qurinul Jul 15, 2012 04:28pm
I think its going to be a very interesting movie... lets just hope that Afridi's character is played by Humayuan Seaeed.
zehra Jul 02, 2012 10:04am
absolutly right
sandeep Jul 03, 2012 10:43am
Good to know that something constructive is happening in this country.
sandeep Jul 03, 2012 10:45am
a movie based on Imran Khan's life would be a great one....
Saurabh rajput Jul 02, 2012 07:41pm
nice comment yaar,, one movie you forgot to mention "paan singh tomar" the movie based on the athelete-turn-dacoit which was big hit on boxoffice.
Prince Mohammed Jul 03, 2012 05:12pm
lovely effort...
tayeba Jul 02, 2012 12:45pm
unable to find his words convincing...
Mohsin Jul 04, 2012 07:06am
AHHH!! once again u all are behind Shahid Afridi. Whats wrong in him? He is a super star and remain the shining star of Pakistan. At least he never defame our country like salman, asif, aamir, kaneria, butt, salim malik, wasim. He never cheated the country and never anyone can blame him of accepting even a single penny. Dude be be a big hearted man, and say spade a spade. Jus go through his analysis and records then say him a controversial figure. I think you are the one of those people who says keep yousuf and kamran akmal in the team...they are a super star...lolz!!
Hamza Jul 04, 2012 05:53am
hey what about that movie captaan, should'nt be that the first pakistani sports movie....i heard it before this movie....well any ways, looking forward for both of these movies...
Ayaz Jul 02, 2012 09:21am
Nice thinking Humayoun, Today film media is powerful way of representing yourself. Pakistan need such film for positive representation, keep going with it, our favors are with you being it your first film Good luck! and where is Abdullah Kadwani this time?
Capt Mansur Jul 02, 2012 08:48am
Shaid Afridi has been a controversal figure. The Film will be waste of money and Time. Humayun Saeed should start cricket academies in Pakistan intead. Yesterday Spain defended the UEFA 2012 cup successfully and the credit is given to youth soccer accademies and not players. Humayum must do that please.
Warda Zaman Jul 02, 2012 10:56am
Humayun Saeed's body language is all wrong. He looks most unexcited about his new venture. I am not convinced that this will be a movie worth watching.
yahya Jul 02, 2012 11:22am
Making films on sport legends is all over the world, True Nations honour their sport heroes, and they are a source of inspiration. Even our neighbour India is now making a film on Milkha Singh, the former flying Singh and it is being made by no other than Farhan Akhtar . I remember the movie chariots of fire, what a movie it was .I do appreciate the passion of the above gentleman to promote cricket in Pakistan. , I would suggest at your end, why don’t you donate a couple of cricket bats and tennis balls to any orphanage centre near your residence .In this way you will be earning the blessing of God and this will also give entertainment opportunities to the under privileged children.
furqan Jul 02, 2012 11:25am
so what if he is controversial . just shut up and you don't watch the film then a. let it be released
Adnan Jul 02, 2012 05:29pm
What about "bend it like beckham"
Adnan Jul 02, 2012 05:28pm
Dude thats a commercial money making project right there. He's not working for welfare of the cricket.
PirBaba Jul 02, 2012 05:16pm
Shahid Afridi is not a representation of Pakistani cricket. It's unfortunate if he is.
Umer Toor Jul 04, 2012 05:07am
Excellent idea. There would definitely be reservations on Afridi being central character; although there are good reasons for him to be there. But the intention is grounded on patriotism and hence noble.
naeem khan Jul 04, 2012 04:56am
replace the name of movie with BOOM BOOM
farhan Jul 04, 2012 03:22am
Revival of our cinema industry is quite essential and only way of stop endorsing Indian movies & culture.
Danish Jul 04, 2012 01:50am
Gud luck Humayun ...
Muhammad Daud Alam Jul 04, 2012 12:10am
yes "Smash it like Afridi" would be a better title for the movie.
ali Jul 03, 2012 11:25pm
nice attempt ,the trend of making movies on sport's legend is not something new, don't know why our movie makers haven't made any yet, so its good start, but afridi is very controversial choice,,,,it depicts that humyaoun is also taking commercial aspect in his mind , afridi is legend but he is too commercial ,,,,i think imran khan could have been a better choice.
Zee Jul 03, 2012 07:59pm
Avid cricket fans will look at stats, the average movie goer doesn't even care about stats. They care about a concept, about small people doing great things - Afridi is one of them. Movies are about inspiring people and escaping harsh realities and Afridi is an inspiration for many kids. It's really as simple as that. Digging up stats and faults is for analysts/cricket fanatic, not for the average audience... If anything, the film will capture the attention of Pakistanis abroad since he's a well known player, and that's a good thing.
Petrolhead Jul 03, 2012 07:41pm
Afridi is the biggest cricket star in Pakistan now - Sad but true!
There is no debate Jul 07, 2012 03:08am
Your opinion is respected but please do not try to enforce it ...
jehangir malik Jul 03, 2012 09:31am
good but first have to see the trailer
Hamza Jul 05, 2012 06:01am
hey wasnt the movie captaan based on imran khan, the first sports movie....anyways really looking forward for both of them
Sufyan Jul 18, 2012 02:49am
Already being made its called kaptaan
