LAHORE, June 14: District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal said on Thursday the City District Government Lahore would continue with crackdown on Sheesha cafes.

“We will never allow those playing with the future of young generation through illegal and horrible business of Sheesha cafes,” the DCO said during a meeting with a delegation of the Lahore Sheesha Cafes Association.

He asked the association to help the CDGL eliminate the business rather than supporting their members. He directed the officials concerned not to be under pressure from anyone and continue with the move against the Sheesha cafes without any fear. “You may continue to serve your customers with tea, coffee, juices etc. But we will never compromise on the issue of Sheesha smoking in your cafes,” he told the delegation.

The delegation members assured the DCO that they would help the CDGL identify those making the young people Sheesha addict.

Additional Collector (General) Mussarat Jabeen and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

VISIT: The DCO on Thursday visited the Akbari Mandi (Market) and listened to the problems of traders as well as residents. On a demand jointly raised by the traders and residents, the DCO ordered construction and repair of the entire market’s roads, directing the officials concerned to prepare a feasibility report to the effect.

He also visited the office of Akbari Market Traders Union. The office-bearers informed the DCO about the non-availability of water and the deteriorating situation of cleanliness. He assured them of early solution to the issues. He said the prices of essential commodities would be rationalised keeping in view the market situation.

He ordered installation of clean drinking water chillers at Akbari Mandi. He said the government had given Rs100 million to Wasa in order to ensure uninterrupted water supply during loadshedding. He also directed the market committee’s secretary to keep a close liaison with traders and make all possible steps in order to solve the issues of traders at Akbari Mandi.

CATTLE EVICTION: In a recently operation launched in all nine towns of the city for shifting the cattle from city areas, the towns’ administrations during the last 24 hours evicted 26 cattle from urban jurisdiction of Lahore. According to a handout, 10 cattle were evicted from Shalamar Town, three from Nishtar Town, 10 from Ravi Town and three cattle from Samanabad Town.

The monitoring teams also imposed Rs3,000 fine on cattle owners. The DCO has directed all TMOs and administrators of the towns to take action according to law against the people involved in keeping cattle in city areas.
