QUETTA, May 15: Two brothers of Hazara community were shot dead here on Tuesday.

According to police, men on motorcycles opened fire at people gathered at the passport office on Barkat Ali Road, killing Mohammad Qadir and his brother Mohammad Tahir and injuring Manzoor Hussain.

“Our investigation shows that this was a sectarian attack,” police officer Shafqat Janjua told Dawn.

He said the men had gone to the office to collect their passports because they planned to visit religious places in Iran.

The Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) and Shia religious parties condemned the attack.

Over 40 people have fallen victim to targeted killings in the city over the past two months.

“The banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for most of these killings,” a police officer said.
