KARACHI, May 14: An anti-terrorism court on Monday remanded in prison till May 20 a suspect accused of being involved in the killing a political worker and his brother in an attack on March 27 and three policemen in another attack on April 4.

Ibrahim and his absconding associates were booked for allegedly killing senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist Mansoor Mukhtar along with his brother, Masood Mukhtar, in their house in PIB Colony. Masood’s wife was injured in the attack.

The suspects were also booked for allegedly killing ASI Dhani Bakhsh and constables Nisar and Ramzan.

The police claimed to have detained the suspect after an encounter in Defence on April 27. They also claimed that during interrogation the suspect confessed to his involvement in both the attacks.

Ibrahim had been in police custody since April 28 and after expiry of his remand on Monday, the investigating officer produced him before ATC-I judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso.

The court remanded him in judicial custody till May 20 directing the IO to submit the charge-sheets on the next hearing.

Two cases were registered under Sections 302 (punishment for premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to commit murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act 1997 at the PIB Colony police station.

Lawyers’ boycott

Legal proceedings at the city courts were partially affected on Monday due to a boycott observed by a group of lawyers.

Over a dozen members of the legal fraternity stayed away from court proceedings and urged colleagues to join them in their protest against implication of a lawyer in a criminal intimidation case by the Jackson police.

A number of undertrial prisoners, brought to the court for the hearing of their respective case, were taken back to the prisons.

Meanwhile, Karachi Bar Association President Mahmoodul Hasan has said that the protest call was not given by the association.
