RAWALPINDI, March 23: A policeman allegedly shot his wife dead and injured her brother over a domestic issue in Rawat. Another woman was tortured and injured by her husband in Saddar Brooni area on Friday, police said.

Nadia Akhtar, mother of three daughters, had gone to her parents' house after developing differences with her husband Waheed Akhtar a few months back.

On Friday, Waheed reached his in-laws' house to settle the dispute and bring his wife back. However, when he asked her to come with him, she refused. This provoked the man who pulled out his pistol and shot her dead. When the brother of the woman, Moeen Akhrar, tried to intervene, the accused also shot and injured him.

The police, however, arrested the alleged killer and registered a murder case against him. The accused worked as a constable with the wireless wing of the police.

The injured was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman, identified as Farida was brought to Benazir Bhutto Hospital with torture marks on her body.

According to preliminary reports, the woman was tortured by her husband, Qazi Haseeb, over a domestic issue. Police said the case had been reported to them but the circumstances leading to the incident were yet to be investigated.
