Robbers on looting spree

ATTOCK, Sept 15: A gang of robbers looted 195 tolas of gold, cash and other valuables worth Rs20 million collectively in two separate incidents in Hazro police area, Dawn has learnt.

Police sources said that a gang of 10 armed robbers entered the house of Oarangzaib Khan in Hazro on Wednesday night. They held the  inmates including women and children at gunpoint and looted gold weighing 95 tolas, cash of Rs104,000,  mobile phones and other household items worth Rs9.6 million. On offering resistance, they also tortured the family head, Oarganzaib.

Later on, they forcibly entered the house of a local jeweler, Dost Mohammad in the same locality and made off  with gold weighing 100 tolas and cash Rs60,000, sources maintained. Local police reached the scene, however, no clue of the robbers could be traced so far, sources added. —Correspondent

More rains in twin cities likely

ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are expected in the northern parts of the country including the twin cities on Thursday and Friday.

The Met Office said that the prevailing westerly wave produced scattered rains in Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand, Kohat divisions and in the parts of Punjab and Kashmir on Thursday.

Under the influence of the same westerly wave and active monsoon currents arriving from the East, the system is expected to intensify on Thursday night.

“It is very likely to produce widespread rains over upper parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir during next 36 hours,” the met office said. — A Reporter

Two houses looted

TAXILA, Sept 15: Two houses were looted by armed robbers in the limits of newly-formed Wah Saddar police station on Thursday.

In the first incident, two masked men forced their entry into the house of Kashif Ali in New City area. They held the female inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs400,000 cash and gold ornaments.

In the second incident, the thieves entered the house of Mohammad Yaqoob when he and his wife were on job in Wah Model Town and made off with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs630,000. Meanwhile, vehicle lifters stole Khalid Mehmood’s motorcycle (LP-867) in the limits of Taxila police station. The police registered the cases and started investigation. —Correspondent

Accident victim dies

TAXILA, Sept 15: A seven-year-old boy, who sustained serious injuries in a road incident, died on Thursday after fighting for life for seven days.

Fahad Razzaq, resident of Mohallah Farooq-e-Azam was knocked down by a motorcyclist when he was crossing the G T Road.

He was taken to the hospital and later, was shifted to DHQ hospital Rawalpindi due to his critical condition. Afterwards, his parents got him admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to the head injury. The motorcyclist, at that time, had managed to flee the scene. —Correspondent

Minorities’ team calls on IGP

ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: A delegation of minorities’ community called on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan at his office on Thursday.

While briefing the delegation about the progress in the investigation of federal minister Shehbaz Bhatti’s assassination case, the IGP said that the special anti-terrorism court had issued warrant of two accused Zia ur Rehman and Malik Abid declaring them proclaimed offenders. He said that the accused would be brought back to Pakistan after contacting the Interpol. — Staff Reporter
