RAWALPINDI, June 29: The District Quality Control Board on Wednesday found 15 drug stores and clinics selling medicine without licesnces or illegal drugs and sent cases against them to Drug Court and issued warning to 18 others.

The decision to send the cases to drug court was taken during a meeting of board held here with District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar in the chair.

Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal and other senior health officials were present on the occasion.

The meeting considered total 33 cases against the medical stores and clinics of quacks involved in different violations of drug rules after hearing the parties concerned.

The medical stores and clinics which would be prosecuted are: Abne Sina Clinic Pirwadhai, Sehaat clinic Bokra Road, Arsheea Hospital Milat Colony, Ikhlaq Clinic Murree, Abid medical Centre Murree, Shabeer Clinic Kahuta, Meharban Clinic Kahuta, Tariq Clinic Kahuta, Abdul Rehman Clinic Murree, Fatima Clinic Murree and Cosmetic Pharma Tipu Road.

The DCO directed the health department to launch aggressive campaign against the quakes, chemists and medical centres which were playing with the health of people.

He said that the CDGR would take stern action against those health officials who would found negligent during the campaign.

He said that the provincial government had already launched campaign against the chemists and drugs stores which were selling fake drugs.

He said that Rawalpindis health department should become the role model to eliminate the menace of spurious drugs from the district.

Earlier, EDO health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal informed the meeting that the health department already warned the chemists and medical centres that their licesnces would be cancelled immediately if the spurious drugs found from their shops.

He said that a total 1,660 licence holder chemists were working in the district and the department would also take action against those who are working without licence.

He said that the distributors and chemists were asked not to get medicines without warranty.
