PESHAWAR, Oct 19: A juvenile court granted bail to a 14-year-old boy here on Saturday and also issued arrest warrants for four police officials for not attending the court proceedings.

The presiding officer of the court, Ziauddin Khattak, who is also Peshawar district and sessions judge, directed that the offender, Roohullah Khan, should be released on furnishing two sureties of Rs100,000 each.

Roohullah Khan was arrested from the parking area of the Civil Secretariat on May 15 on the charge of stealing some items from the cars parked there.

He pleaded not guilty and claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case.

The boy claimed that he was a scavenger and was looking for waste papers and other items at the parking lot. On Saturday, four police officers who were witnesses in the case — two ASIs, Waris Khan and Iqbal, and two constables, Khan Said and Gohar Ali — did not appear before the court following which the judge issued their arrest warrants.

The court directed that they should be positively produced before the court on Nov 21.

NOTICE ISSUED: The district and sessions judge, Peshawar, on Saturday issued notice to the local police in connection with a habeas corpus application, accusing the police of keeping a person in illegal confinement for over a week.

The court directed the officials of East Cantt police station to appear on Oct 21 and clarify their position.

The applicant claimed that Muhammad Ayaz was a watchman at the Wapda Colony and was arrested by the police on Oct 13. He claimed that he was arrested in connection with a theft case in the colony.

The applicant added that neither the detainee was produced before any of the courts nor his arrest was declared by the police.

He requested the court to issue directives for production of the detainee and to set him at liberty.
