Power pylon blown up GHALANAI, April 16: Unknown miscreants blew up a tower of 132kv transmission line in Yakghund area of Mohmand tribal region on Saturday.

Unknown miscreants planted explosives near an electricity tower of 132kv transmission line in Zarshal Kor which went off partially destroying it. The administration launched crackdown after the incident and arrested 28 tribesmen under collective responsibility clause of FCR. —Correspondent

Transport fares KARAK, April 16: The people have shown resentment over increase in transport fares and demanded of the Road Transport Authority to issue a new fare list in view of the hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The elders of Takht Nusrati tehsil held a jirga on Saturday to discuss the situation arising out of the increase in the fares by the transporters. The meeting was presided over by former councillor Malik Mohammad Nawaz.

The jirga rejected the increase in fares by the transporters by Rs5 per stop. The elders said scuffles between commuters and transporters had become a regular feature. The jirga members threatened to come onto roads if the district administration did not take notice of the issue. —Correspondent Drug pushers held HARIPUR, April 16: The Haripur police arrested two notorious drug pushers and seized huge quantity of liquor from them on Friday night. City police said on a tip-off house of Arshad in village Chohar Sharif was raided and 350 bottles of homemade liquor were recovered from him.

In another raid on the house of Noor Mohammad, Saddar police recovered 260 bottles of liquor and booked him. —Correspondent Funds for bar room BUNER, April 16: The chairman of district development and advisory committee, MPA Said Rahim Khan advocate, on Saturday handed over a cheque of Rs3.5 million to the president of district bar association Shah Shah Baross Khan.

The MPA in his brief address at the bar room Daggar said it was first installment of Rs13.5 million promised by the chief minister from his special fund for constructing building of the district bar room.

He said the rest of the amount would also be released for early completion of the project. DBA president Shah Baross and general secretary Said Jamil Shah thanked the chief minister on behalf of the lawyers’ community for releasing funds to the bar association. —Correspondent Orientation session PESHAWAR, April 16: Over 25 students selected for the US-funded 2010-11 Kerry-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme, were given their pre-departure orientation at Pearl Continental hotel on Saturday.

This is the 9th group of students to go to the US from all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Chitral, Bannu, and Kohat, according to a press release issued by the US Consulate Peshawar on Saturday.—Bureau Report
