SUKKUR, Oct 9: The PPP candidate, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, for NA-198 has said the Reni Canal and Kalabagh dam project would not be acceptable for the people of Sindh, and when the PPP would come to power these projects would be cancelled.

Speaking at an election meeting in Rohri the other day, he referred to President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Reni Canal, in which he had hinted at the construction of big dams.

He said such projects had already been rejected by the people in the past.

GUDDU BARRAGE: Strict security measures taken during the President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s visit to the Guddu Barrage the other day.

Media persons and even local press information department officials were not spared harsh treatment at the hands of the civilian and khaki-clad security personnel.

According to an official, a lot of confusion was created after the security arrangements were taken over by the army personnel.

At least 70 of the front row seats were filled by the Jawans of special forces and members of a law enforcement agency to keep the audience away.

Hundreds of security men cordoned off the audience from the president as soon as his inaugural address came to an end, disallowing the audience to move from the venue for over 30 minutes.

The invitations to the function specifically barred people from bringing cellular phones.

The audience had to endure scorching heat after the venue’s power supply was cut off.
