CHITRAL, Feb 22: Speakers at a function held here in connection with the World Mother Language Day on Tuesday said that Khowar spoken by Chitralis was a complete language, meeting all the definitions of a language.
They said that like any other language of the country there was a rich treasure of both prose and poetry in Khowar literature.
The function was arranged by Anjuman-e-Taraqi Khowar, Chitral, and those who spoke on the occasion included its president Naqeebullah Razi, Prof Mumtaz Hussain, Maula Nigah, Amir Khan, Abdul Wali, Sadiqullah, Sher Mohammad and Saleh Wali.
They said that the government's decision to include Khowar in school curriculum was a welcome step. Some papers were also presented on local dialects spoken in different parts of Chitral.
The speakers said that area-wise, Chitral was one-fifth of the province and due to its size, there was a great diversity of dialects in its many sub-valleys.
