RAWALPINDI, Dec 8: The city police want the name of the killer car racer on the Exit Control List (ECL) to prevent him from fleeing the country, and also decided to seek arrest warrants for all the four persons identified as accused in the Sunday tragic incident.

Five people were killed and two others injured when one of the vehicles taking part in the car racing event ploughed into the spectators standing along the track in Bahria Town. The driver of the car identified as Majid Naeem escaped after the incident.

Police have not been able to arrest the driver and three organisers of the car racing event and sent a request to the Ministry of Interior to put the driver's name on the ECL.

City Police Officer Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja said they had sought inclusion of the name of the driver in the ECL, as there were reports that he might leave the country to avoid arrest.

To a question, the CPO said none of the other persons, including the organisers, would be put on the ECL. However, the police swoops continued in different places to arrest the accused.

Sheikh Atif, Ali Riaz and Waleed Khan, the marketing manager of Bahria Town, who had sought the police permission to hold the car racing event were identified as organisers in the FIR registered with the police.

A Pindi police team led by Inspector Mehdi visited the G-6/3 house of Ali Riaz twice on Tuesday but was told by the inmates that he was out of the country. On the other hand, the permanent addresses of Mr Atif and Mr Khan turned out to be Lahore.

Inspector Mehdi, who is leading the investigation into the case, said they approached the court of law on Wednesday seeking arrest warrants for the four persons but the judge was not available. He said he would go to the court again on Thursday.

“When police go to arrest a person without having warrants, they face resistance from the people,” the IO said.

Meanwhile, a large number of people, including friends of the victims, kept on visiting the scene of the fatal car crash and laid wreaths at the site.

However, some of the visitors were pushed back and forced to leave the site by private security guards.

Despite repeated attempts, Bahria Town administration could not be contacted for comments.
