NOWSHERA, Oct 3: Famous Pashto folk singer and president's pride of performance award winner Zarsanga has been living a miserable life along with her family in a tent like other flood-hit people in Azakhel area of Nowshera district.

The health condition of the 65-year-old vocalist, whose house was also swept away in floods, is deteriorating day by day and she desperately awaits government's assistance in this hour of need.

She told journalists on Sunday that the flood washed away her house and all belongings and she had to take shelter in a tent. Also known as Malika-i-Kohsar, Zarsanga regretted that the culture ministry and institutions set up for the promotion of art and music had also ignored her.

Zarsanga started singing at age 20 and has performed in France, Germany, UK, America, Dubai, Afghanistan and other countries.

The famous singer said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai had offered her Afghan nationality, a house and car, but she turned down the offer and preferred to stay in Pakistan.
