HYDERABAD, Nov 16: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo and noted writer Dr Shams Ursani here on Saturday discussed ways and means for the development of Sindhi language and demanded that a Sindhi-language university be established for its promotion on the pattern of Urdu university.

In a joint statement, they said that the government had not only failed to protect the economic rights of the people of Sindh but it had also failed to preserve Sindhi language.

They demanded that Sindh and federal governments should give proper recognition and status to Sindhi language and make it a medium of instruction in private schools and scientific subjects.

They referred to the decision of the chairman of the Karachi Board of Education who had abolished Sindhi language subject from the syllabus.

They regretted that the government had abandoned the use of Sindhi language in official correspondence.

They called upon the government to direct the Sindh Textbook Board to publish science subjects in Sindhi language for students of class-XI and XII.

They demanded that Urdu-speaking students of Sindh be given opportunity of learning and studying Sindhi for better interaction between the people of Sindh.

They urged the government to direct the Sindh University to grant permissions to bachelors and master's students and PhD scholars to write their monographs and thesis in Sindhi language on scientific subjects on the pattern of Karachi University.

They demanded that Sindhi-language schools be established for Sindhis in other provinces of the country particularly in Balochistan and the Sindh Agriculture University be directed to introduce Sindhi as medium of instruction.

They called upon the federal government to direct the Allama Iqbal Open University to publish Sindhi language books on scientific and technical subjects and allow its Sindhi students to solve their examination papers in their mother language.
